mdkmaster Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I have a legitimate copy of Skyrim and I use Steam for a lot of things. One of those things IS NOT to manage my mods. With its wonderful ability to update and break my other mods (I'm running more than the average person), it becomes counter productive. If you set Skyrim to not auto update, steam updates itself, resetting my selection, and BOOM! Skyrim auto updates and screws all my other mods. Currently i'm using the latest version of Skyrim, so its not such a big deal. But knowing the problem exists, and can happen with any patch, doesn't impress me a whole lot. On top of that, using the CK to create and update mods into the steam network allows for a ton of (literally) broken mods to populate the workshop, along with other stupid things like... (and yes this is pulled staight off a mod I was considering downloading from JackGa)... "Installation: 1/ Steam (subscribe is Okay and it will auto download, but no esp) 2/ open skyrim game interface, and click data file, it will auto download esp file for the tree." Okay, so I subscribe to get a mod...but don't even get whats required to run it, without further dicking around? So, what exactly is the point of having the workshop if you can download part of a mod that doesn't work without screwing with the launcher just to get the rest of the mod? Now I have to go and mark my inis for read only just to open the launcher, just to get the rest of a mod (which by this point, really isn't interesting anymore). Point being, and not to be rude, but not everyone who avoids the workshop is a pirate/thief/chemically imbalanced moron (ok, so i've got the chemically imbalance moron part covered). Some of us have reasons, and minor chemical imbalances.

Endiness Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Haven't bothered trying to use steam mods as people kept mentioning how troublesome it was. All I can recommend is looking into having two installs, and just use steam install to get workshop mods. Backup Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPref.ini, and set them to read-only. Main files download when you subscribe, and esp downloads when you click play Skyrim and launcher loads. You can just close the launcher (esps are automatically enabled) and run skse_loader. If you're using another install, then just move data files over to second install after closing launcher, use a mod manager to enable the mods, and run skse in second install directory. I don't like having to open the launcher either. To be honest, I just replaced the inis with my old ones anyway after I finished downloading a batch of mods, just in case. I expected the sky to fall. It did not.

Edit: Okay, a couple of the newer stuffs are in; particularly the Silver Knight and Dark Knight newest variant. The Dark Crusaders seem to have missing textures. Will try to manual replace texture folder and see if that fixes it. Else... I need to look up the texture in 2.7 file. Probably the new esm got screwed. Will try the vanilla one to test out. Edit 2: Okay, replacing texture pack from 2.7 fix the texture issue with the Dark Crusaders set. Not sure it's a problem on my end (faulty download) or just Jackga giving us the middle finger again (since the name of the file is "Hell" and hosted on Baidu).
