Unable to change follower make-up in Creation Kit

I'll bet this has been listed before, but I just can't seem to alter the make-up on my followers (i.e. lip color, eyeliner, etc.). It just doesn't show correctly. Sucks that I can't make one of my custom followers have red lips...

Anybody know how to make this work, or is it not something CK can handle?

The CK does not always handle modded tintmasks (ie: makeup, etc.) all that well. Here's a workaround:

 - Before opening your CK, *TEMPORARILY* remove the "tintmasks" folder from: ...\Skyrim\Data\Textures\actors\character\character assets.

 - When you're done & have exported the facegen, saved, etc., close the CK and put the tintmasks folder BACK where you found it.

You can repeat this process as many times as you like.I *ALWAYS* do this when using the CK, and it always works just fine.

Let us know how you go! ^_^

Didn't work. I should note that my followers use custom races, but I did the trick for all of the races and it didn't have any effect.

No changed lip color, no makeup around the eyes, etc. Just the foreheads got changed in color.  :-/

When you said "remove the tintmask folders", did you mean I had to temporarily delete them?

Ahh - okay, custom races. I have no real knowledge of those. I've generally avoided them. If it's a custom race, have a browse through its filepath - it may be drawing custom makeup textures from elsewhere.

Yep, temporarily delete the tintmasks folder (there should only be ONE folder) or move elsewhere. I *ALWAYS* keep a backup copy of mine in case I accidentally flush it! This workaround DOES avoid the coloured forehead bug & several other tintmask bugs in Vanilla races - make sure you are properly exporting the facegen (ie: click once on the actor name to highlight it, press CTRL+F4 to export, wait for confirmation and hit "Okay") and saving after you're done.

Also - are these followers home-cooked, or are they sourced from elsewhere (ie: Nexus)? If they're downloads, please include a link if you're able.

Lastly - your load order can block tintmask & skin tone information if you have several conflicting mods affecting the same NPCs (for example, the .esp for the follower itself, and another mod which changes female stance, etc.). Make sure you have used BOSS to sort your load order, & if necessary try moving the follower's .esp either up or down in the order (trial and error). Also - please include your load order here as it might make it easier for others to help you as well. :)
