Like the title says, I'm rebooting the Derrax Male Troll mod. He fell off the map a while ago and no one has heard back from him in ages. So credit goes where credit is due, but the show must go on.

IMPORTANT: MY FILES ARE NOT STANDALONE. You still need Derrax's mod.

[spoiler=Vanilla Skyrim Trolls]

Derrax Troll Patch.rar

-- Updates the normal cave trolls and the unique uderfrykte with new .nif and .dds files.

WHAT IS INCLUDED:

  1. Cave Trolls (brown/black whatever you call them) now have dongs and their own custom dong texture with a fancy new nif file and dds.
  2. Uderfrykte is even more unique with twice the dong of his trollish bretheren! New .nif file, but shares the .dds with Cave Trolls.

NOT INCLUDED:

  1. New "troll_penis_n.dds" (aka why you still need Derrax's mod)
  2. New "troll_penis_sk.dds" (aka why you still need Derrax's mod)

INSTALLATION:

  1. Install Derrax's mod (found here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3684)
  2. Extract my files to your Skyrim Data folder to the directories listed

Boom. Done.

My files are also NMM friendly for those of you that use the Nexus Mod Manager. Just add the .rar to NMM and activate/deactivate the mod.

[spoiler=Skyrim Immersive Creatures -- LIMITED]

-- I have no idea if I need to change the "troll.nif" in the SIC mod or not

WHAT IS INCLUDED:

  1. Ice Trolls now have dongs and their own custom dong texture with a fancy new nif file and dds.
  2. Swamp Trolls now have dongs and their own custom dong texture with a fancy new nif file and dds.
  3. Tundra Trolls now have dongs and their own custom dong texture with a fancy new nif file and dds.

What I need help with, however, is updating for the Armored Trolls for Dawnguard. I'm also working on updates for the Skyrim Immersive Creatures mod. I don't *cough*ownalegitimatecopyofskyrim*cough* and as such I don't have access to the creation kit. I've been using BSAOpt and TESEdit to look up all my file information. So here's what I need help with:

  1. I see that there is an armored cave troll texture (textures > dlc01 > actors > armoredtroll > armoredcavetroll.dds), but no .nif file to correspond to it. All I see is the armoredfrosttroll.nif file. If anyone can help me figure out how to replace the .nif file (if there even is one), I'd be much obliged.
  2. I am pretty new to NIFSkope and Blender. It is going to take me a while to learn how to get everything working right for the armored troll models for Dawnguard. If anyone would like to help me out with creating the new .nif files, I'll still slap on the textures I create and stick it here.
  3. If anyone can help me with the Dawnguard .nif files, maybe they can help with the <name>trollgiant.nif and "troll warlocknew.nif" models in the Skyrim Immersive Creatures mod.
  4. In the Skyrim Immersive Creatures mod, there are a lot of mesh files. I have no idea if all of the meshes there are being used or not, though. For example, troll.nif looks like a direct copy of the vanilla troll.nif and, in the installed directory, will not replace the vanilla troll.nif... I think. The differences between trollswamp.nif, trollswamp2.nif, and trollswamp3.nif seem to be that they used different base models (troll.nif, blacktroll.nif, and uderfrykte2.nif respectively).

That's it for now, though. I'll work on the armored models as I have the time. I'm, as I said, really new to Blender and NifSkope

(Reserved Post for progress/updates)

General Information -- DAWNGUARD:

1. I still have no idea how to tell the game to differentiate between Cave and Frost armored trolls.

2. I'm progressing with Blender/Nifskope a bit, but it's a lot of trial and error.

3. See the Armored Troll Meshes section for more info

General Information -- Skyrim Immersive Creatures (SIC):

1. I still have no idea which of the NIF files are being used (ie l'm pretty sure the ones with #'s attached at the end are not being used).

2. Any progress I make towards the Dawnguard patch can be applied here

3. If I manage to make the Dawnguard patch, the same tools/knowledge can be used to the other SIC files.

ARMORED TROLL MESHES:

So, I've been toying with Blender and NifSkope all weekend and have learned a lot about editing through trial and error. It works, kind of, because I have Derrax's modded files to use as a frame of reference for when I did something right and when something went horribly wrong. After a few hours of this process, I got some results:

There are still a few problems, though. The in-game model appears to be a bit smaller (might be my imagination but scaling shouldn't be too hard) and there are some coloring issues, too. When I was comparing piece by piece with my modded files and the source files, I noticed that there was a difference in the NiTriShapeData for Num Vertices. I'm not sure if that's the cause of the problem at this point (because I still have very little idea as to what I'm actually doing), but it might be a good place to start.

UPDATE2: My trial&error process is slow, but I'm picking up on a few things. I hadn't realized before, but the meshes for the Armored trolls are actually pretty different from the normal trolls-- They have weird heads to compensate for where the armor goes. This explains the earlier notion I had that there was a problem with vertices.

My problem right now is that since I don't really understand WHY things work the way they do, I have to kind of brute force it in sequence to figure it out. I'm having trouble exporting the .nifs correctly now, even though I'm essentially doing what I did earlier for my first somewhat successful one. When I export, the body comes out fine, but the armor and wang can't be textured.

SIC-- TROLL MESHES:

GENERAL: The recolors are really easy to do, it's just a matter of getting that initial mesh done.

SIC-- ARMORED TROLL MESHES:

Still working on Dawnguard. Once that's done, the SIC armored trolls will be easy peasy.

SIC-- TROLL Warlock MESHES:

I have no idea what this really is. When I look at the mesh, it just looks like a Cave Troll with oversized Orcish Armor (torso only) equipped and a badly rendered Troll Skull overlapping with its head. I don't even remember seeing any of these in game at all, so maybe it was just an experiment by the modder?

Either way, this one looks like (once I finalize with Dawnguard) it would be easy to modify.

SIC-- GIANT TROLL MESHES (TBD):

Not sure if I'm going to try to change these or not. I have no idea how to sculpt things in 3d so I would have a lot of trouble making a mesh from scratch. The alternative would be to just use the Derrax mesh for the wang and then try to mess with the scaling, but meh. They look too much like giants to really be considered trolls IMO.

Yes thanks for this, I always wished derax would return. Thanks for the update!

I pestered him on his art page several months back and he said he doesn't really play the game any more, so he didn't plan on ever coming back to continue modding.  It's nice to see his work continued, hopefully he won't mind so long as you credit him.
