Luciverus Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Hey everyone yesterday i decided to try using "The Girls Of Skyrim" mod body files to try to create my own character, problem is that when i install them all the races get their head textures (at least i think its the textures) messed up, its especially bad on the nords. I took Some screenshots of the problem. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to fix it. Thanks.
BSnake Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Hi Luciverus, Which race is shown in the first two pics? The face/body color mismatch can happen if you use face and body textures that are not meant for each other, such as face textures meant for CBBE plus the UNP body. Please answer the following concerning The Girls of Skyrim: 1) What types of files did you install (meshes, textures, tri files)? 2) Which NPC did you get these files from (Amanda, Michelle, etc.)? 3) Where did you place these files? It's strange that your Nord race has the blue face. This usually means that your diffuse map (femalehead.dds) is missing or your femalehead.nif can't find it. The game should use its vanilla femalehead.dds if you don't have a replacer present, though. For now, I recommend opening your femalehead.nif using NifSkope, navigate to NiTriShape > BSLightingShaderProperty > BSShaderTextureSet, and make sure the paths point to the correct directory (Data\textures\actors\character\female).
Luciverus Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 The first two pictures race is Breton. I installed the CBBE body first then The Girls Of Skyrim , but only Lyla files (i think she and Misha are the only ones using CBBE Body) I only took these files from the mod: Meshes\Actors\Character\Character Assets eyesfemale.niffemalebody_0.niffemalebody_1.niffemalefeet_0.niffemalefeet_1.niffemalehands_0.niffemalehands_1.niffemalehead.nifeyesfemalechargen.trifemaleheadchargen.triFemaleHeadraces.tri Meshes\Actors\Character\Character Assets\Faceparts eyesfemaleleftchargen.trieyesfemalerightchargen.trifemaleheadbrowschargen.trifemaleheadbrowsrace.tri Textures\Actors\Character\Female femalebody_1.ddsfemalebody_1_msn.ddsfemalebody_1_s.ddsfemalebody_1_sk.ddsfemalehands_1.ddsfemalehands_1_msn.ddsfemalehands_1_s.ddsfemalehands_1_sk.ddsfemalehead.ddsfemalehead_msn.ddsfemalehead_s.ddsfemalehead_sk.dds
BSnake Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I just took a look at the Girls of Skyrim archive and it seems that each NPC folder contains compatible face and body textures. The textures that you installed should look fine in-game. I'm not sure why you're experiencing the face/body color mismatch or the blue face. Please list your load order or any mods you have installed that might affect vanilla races. On a side note, I noticed that you have CME installed, so you likely have ECE without Ygnord installed as well. Girls of Skyrim uses either old tri files from ECE or ones from Better FaceGen, which are incompatible with the ECE overhaul. You should overwrite the tri files that you listed above with the ones from the new ECE. I doubt that this will make the textures appear correctly, though. If the above doesn't help, I recommend deleting some of the Girls of Skyrim textures, starting with femalehead.dds. Delete that file, check the Nord race in-game, and see whether the game switches to its default femalehead.dds. Try installing a femalehead.dds from a different face mod and see if you can get it to appear on the Nord race.
Luciverus Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Thank you for your help Seems the problem is with femalehead.nif if i dont overwrite the one that comes with ECE everthing seems fine. Got two more questions though, meshes files (.nif) are responsible for the shape of the body and texture files (.dds) are reponsible for how the skin will look like, yes ? What about .tri files ?

I'm glad you were able to solve it. I neglected to mention keeping ECE's femalehead.nif since it seemed the one used by Girls of Skyrim was the same. I just did a quick comparison using their file size and dates modified, but I guess they're different after all. My basic understanding is that tri files determine how certain parts of head meshes, such as the femalehead.nif, are morphed. This thread contains more details on them.
Luciverus Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Will read that thread latter in the weekend, again thanks for your help
Tyber Zann Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Wow, finally found some good ideas. (Iv seen good suggestions with the CK on other pages but this solution is more universal, helps me since I'm using the NPC editor to create mods for individual NPCs. The odd thing with mine are that some work flawlessly without effort, and others refuse to co-operate. First, I have several appearnce mods in place using nexus mod Manager (caliente body mod, a female face mod, can't remember the name (not bellas better barbies), ethereal elven overhaul,). I made two mods, one for Muiri (Breton) and one for Brilyna Maryon (Dunmer). I made only basic modifications; new hair-do, new face paint/makeup, and scars. Muiri came out looking great. Everything the way I intended, face and body texture matches seamlessly. Brylina came out looking like she's getting a clay facial. Her body looks great, proper Dunmer tone, bluish grey, and her hair style changed to what I wanted, and her scar is there, but, her face colour is that of clay, and her hair is the same colour as before, even though i changed the colour as well as the style. My first thought was that the elven overhaul mod was conflicting with the NPC editor, but I disabled it and no change. Now that iv read this, I'm gonna try to manually replace the specified files with ones from the face mod I have and see if it works. Will let ya know. Thanks for the help.
Tyber Zann Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Ok, iv made some progress. Hope this helps. After a little trial n error n snoopin online, iv found that deleting an NPCs individual texture file thingy makes the proper colours show for a modded/edited NPC. Sorry for my laymen terminology, still learning all this. Basically, it seems each NPC has its own individual file associated with it that affects their appearance. I don't have my CPU in front of me so I cant recall the exact location of the folder, but I think its in Skyrim.ini in the textures folder. There's a bunch of files, one for each NPC, with the NPCs ID code as the files name (npc IDs can be found online, just google it). So, when u make an NPC mod and the colours r messed up in game, go into the skyrim.ini folder, find the file with the title that matches that NPCs ID code, and move it to a seperate backup folder (in case u wanna retrieve it later (it should replace itself on its own if u update or install any texture packs, but its best to be safe)). This process solved my Brelyna Maryon problem, she no longer looks like a clay statue, she actually has the right skin tone and hair colour, but, for some reason the face paint still didn't show up. One step at a time I guess. I was gonna try to use the CK but realized u MUST have Steam to use it and I refuse to use steam out of protest of making single player games REQUIRE internet access/signing up for a website. It should be optional, with incentive, but not maditory. Im sure any Diablo fan would agree. Anyway, ill let u know if i solve the face paint part. Cheers
