shar181 Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 The problem is as simple as it is infuriating. I decided it was time to slay some of my fellow vampires, so I went to Fort Dawnguard to join up. I crashed as soon as I tried to enter Dayspring Canyon. "No worries", I foolishly told myself, "Everyone gets random CTDs. I'll just reload and try again." So I did, and was able to enter the canyon. I talked to the beardless nord lad, followed him up to the Fort, and was directed inside to talk to Isran. Opened the door and, "Oh hello, CTD. Fancy seeing you here." So I reloaded the game and tried again, this time making it all the way into Fort Dawnguard. I talked to Isran, got fucked by a rapey Vigilant of Stendarr, received a crossbow that I sure could have used a few minutes earlier, and then headed off to start my vampire-slaying journey. Or at least I tried to. As you know doubt expected, I hit a CTD as soon as I tried to walk through the door. This time, reloading my game wasn't enough. No matter how many times I try, I get hit by a CTD when I try to exit Fort Dawnguard. CTD occurs whether I use the Main Door, or the doors upstairs (the ones leading onto the ramparts). Waiting 12 hours and then trying to leave still resulted in a CTD. I checked SSEEdit, and the only mods I have (other than the Unofficial Patch) which affect Fort Dawnguard and Dayspring Canyon are Relighting Skyrim and Sexlab More Creatures. I removed all the changes these mods made to the two areas, saved, and tried again. Still CTD'd. I individually summoned all of the NPCs that appear outside in the Canyon using the "placeatme" command, in case it was a facegen crash. Nothing happened when they were summoned. [Edit] Used "placeatme" command to spawn 100 Vampire Scouts, in case they had a facegen issue. No crashes, so I made them fight to the death for my amusement. An altmer won, and was rewarded with Hentai Spriggan cock. I recently installed a mod that changes the Dawnguard Armor for female characters into something decidedly lewder. I I uninstalled that and tried again. Still got the CTD. [Edit] Entering Mossy Glen Cave and then attempting to return to Dayspring Canyon also results in a CTD. The strangest thing about this is what happened when I tried using the command "coc DLC1DawnguardHQExt01" to leave the Fort. It worked, placing me directly outside the entrance to Dayspring Canyon, on the road near Riften. I successfully entered Dayspring Canyon again, ran back to Fort Dawnguard, entered Fort Dawnguard... and got the same CTD when I tried to leave Fort Dawnguard via the door. I am going to teleport out using "coc" again, and go finished the first quest. Hopefully it will fix itself in the meantime, but in case it doesn't... any ideas? Edit: This time, I got the CTD when I used "coc DLC1DawnguardHQExt01". Twice in a row. Lovely. ._. Edit 2: One thing I forgot, which is probably not related. The Orc, Durak, never appeared in town to recruit me. I got the quest from him after arriving at the canyon. Edit 3: Started a new game to test. I was able to enter and exit Fort Dawnguard without issues. Edit 4: Experienced a CTD when trying to load a save that I made while standing just outside Fort Dawnguard, in Dayspring Canyon. Happened multiple times. Edit 5: Problem Identified, and a band-aid solution found! Somehow, the weather is responsible. For reference, I'm using Climates of Tamriel. It was raining when I was entering/leaving Fort Dawnguard in my main save. After using the command "setweather 0010E1F1"while standing in Dayspring Canyon I was able to leave the Fort with no CTD. I don't know why the weather would cause an issue, but hopefully this is an isolated incident! I think I'm probably safe; this playthrough has about 100 hours on it, and I'm sure I've transitioned areas during rainy weather before. Vampire Bitch Brawl: Spoiler
Shonrim Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Over the years, I've CTD'd on my way out of Fort Dawnguard in Skyrim LE. It happened just now in a new playthrough in Skyrim SE. I'm using Rustic Weathers and Lighting for SE. Anyway, it could be like you said. Weather changing outside. I do know there are Vampires waiting for me outside. Maybe their spawn packaging gets clogged the first time they are used in the game. Also in my playthrough, the trap gates never raise/lower during the sunburn vampire check Isran does when you enter the fort. That script jam could be why the game dies when I exit the place. I don't have any Fort Dawnguard mods installed that I know of. The bug is frustrating though when playing for awhile without saving. ADDED: Figured out that it was Celann that was causing my CTD. He died when the vampires attacked the entrance, and his body was still outside. The game had issues cleaning up the mess when I'd try to leave the fort. I went back to an old save to where Celann survives the attack. Then I was able to leave the fort no prob.
