Phoenix Point - (un)Useable Base Slots

I was gonna post this on the Snapshot forums, but they don't allow you to embed images (more than 1 for new posters), and for some reason imugr isn't working at the moment. So I'll take advantage of LL for image hosting! Unnecessary server bloat ahoy!

This is fine. Two slots down is, I think, the minimum. Pretty sure the starting base is required to be like this - at least, I've never had a PP starting base with more than two slots down.

Okay, this is fine too. Three slots unusable, which still allows for enough slots for a lot of nifty buildings.

I get it, the RNG will give the bad just as much as the good. Four slots down, I don't like it but I gotta deal with it.

This is somehow less fine than four unusable slots. The one in the corner there is stuck! I get it, you have to be able to build next to a slot to use it, because otherwise you could put some important facility behind cover and the aliens couldn't damage it on a base assault. But that corner piece, empty but unreachable, taunts me.

Are you mocking me? What's the big idea? Five slots unusable? Don't give me that bullcrap about the base being super defensible because the vehicle bay is in a corner. This is untenable. I want to talk to your manager!

Oh, you little shit.

I'd be willing to guess that it's entirely possible for the vehicle bay to end up in a corner, completely surrounded by four unusable pieces, meaning the whole base is a pointless waste of space.

Anyone have any worse base setups?

Spoiler

The AI might even have it worse though. Does the game just pick a completely random spot to place soldiers? What's he supposed to do down there? I can't reach him to activate him, and he can't see or shoot out of his hole. Did he break some rule and was sentenced to pit duty as punishment?
