Adding Tattoos with GIMP

Since I have an old version of Photoshop on another computer that doesn't seem to want to open my body texture for whatever reason I gave gimp a try to add some tattoos, to my characters body. The problem is unlike photoshop when I try to re size the tattoo layer it re sizes everything. This is most likely a dumb question, but I find asking them tends to help. How do you re-size just one layer without resizing the whole project in GIMP?

Also how to flip or rotate one layer without doing so to the whole project as well? Basically how do you make the Tattoos I'm looking to add independent of everything else? I don't want to shrink, or rotate the body, I just want to fit the tattoos on it.

Not sure if this matters, but I am doing this for Skyrim.

Oh this can be tricky in Gimp.

Now I  suck at texturing but I have used Gimp a bit

One of the things I do with it is I make a new layer (Temporarily)

Copy the Tattoo onto that new area (make adjustments as needed)

Then I would take the tattoo I want then resize it using the Scale tool (Short cut Key Shift+T)

From there Paste it into the main layer.

Also Shift R will Rotate the Selection or Layer.

Though in Gimp I always have issues with that so I usually use Paint.net. this program is free.

I persoanlly think it is good to have all three programs because sometimes one does a better job for one task then another. It may be rather tedious but it works in the end :).

Hope this somewhat helps you

Thanks a bunch Sparkles, I'll try to do it this way. It helps knowing the hotkeys, which I am not familiar with in GIMP. I may also try that Paint Program you mentioned worse, comes to worse. To be honest, I am most comfortable in Photoshop, been using it for years but it'll take me quite a bit of time to save up for a new copy. So in the meantime I'm going to have to make due with my old copy of it, and other programs like GIMP.

You are very much welcome Cozy.

Here is the Link to Paint.net if you choose to download it.

I'd hate to make a suggestion without giving a link to follow up with it.

Happy Modding ^_^

Right click the texture you wish to resize in the layers window then go to select in the top menu and make sure you select none.  After that you can use the tools in the tool bar to resize or adjust them to your liking. :)
