From what i have seen, there seems to be a difference in what mods work with what skyrim version like the standard has more mods while the special edition has a difference that make certain mods not work.  Also, I have seen that there was some setting or something of the sort that needed to be changed so that all mods work for the special and not restricted to a certain version and that that setting had some type of update or something was released to everyone so it doesnt matter anymore.  I hope any of this makes sense and would really appreciate some advice on which version to buy to mod.

Me personal recomand the special edition. You dont have all the mods but the performance with thosevare significantly better. The vanilla version also has a ton of useless mods. Thats why there are sp many.

Norma Edition with dlcs

Much too choose from (also many shit, but also quiet good stuff)

Probably more performance loss for heavy moded game

Probably many chrashes, bugs and fps from hell

Heavily modded game can get tottaly  broke mid game (happend me)

Special edition

Smaller selection of mods to choose from

Intigrated dlc

Better performance

Better graphics it self (dont expect to much)

Most of the best mods has been converted to this edition

The risk of crashes and bugs are much more less

Heavily modded game can also  get tottaly  broke mid game (this could happen)

Here you go my friend.

I sure do appreciate it, just on the off chance I find  a mod I want but it doesnt support SE is there anything I can do to make it work?

No sorry. You can search theme on the special edition mod tab. If its missing there is no other way. The new edition runs onto an 64bits sytem not anymore on 32 so the modder itself must rewrite the script and shit like this.

Just in case the broken engrish wasn't a tipoff, this dude has no idea what they are talking about.

There are several tools that can convert from one game version to the other, but most everything that isn't scripted works just fine on Special Edition with no additional work required.

If there is a problem, tools like SSE Nif Optimizer and Cathedral Assets Optimizer can convert damn near anything.

There are very, very few mods that only exist on Legendary Edition.

(Full disclosure, I don't use SE, but I frequently backport things made for SE into LE, and the reverse is also available as an option.)

The real differences between the two mainly fall into visual post-process stuff (ENBs are far more varied and customizable in LE), and fewer inbuilt limitations with SE's 64-bit engine.

All told, if you don't know what you're missing, go with SE.

also, Vortex says a good thing to have for modding is SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender)  should I get it?

Yes, it is necessary for many mods to work.

Specifically, get SKSE64.  (Regular SKSE is for LE only.)
