Well oblivion is an older game so it will only use one core.  Running with a 32 bit windows OS and only 2GB of ram is not going to help you either.

Do you have a separate video card (if so what are its specs)?  If you have an onboard card then you probably aren't going to do much better than medium quality with just the vanilla game.  Because oblivion is an older game and is not optimized, it may actually run the same or worse than Skyrim.

Laptops are typically pretty horrible at trying to play games with.  Adding mods may be more than your pc can handle depending on which ones they are.

well amalour its slightly lighter even for the year but playing oblivion vanilla with those specs will suffice for good fps.

Having a dedicated graphics card will most definitely help.  You will need to be careful on adding plugins.  Try to avoid the high rez texture packs as that may be more than your setup can handle.

As to comparing oblivion to Amalur, it is not at all the same.  Oblivion is an 07 game so it is no where near as optimized as Amalur.

Best of luck to you!

Albeit old, I find oblivion to be capable of wondrous things...

I use Nvidia GPU ( I think it is GTX 460 or something of the sorts) and through the Nvidia control panel I added lots of graphical features that don't exist in the game..

I really pushed it's limits... So the game engine couldn't run all of those things... At least I think that was the cause for the unbelievable slow running times and crashes.  :P

For example I added ambient occlusion among other things.
