gerra6 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 First, you'll want to read the Skryim nif import tutorial http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3790 Now, if you are looking to rig a mesh, your next step is to weightpaint it. Your best bet is to copy weightpainting from an existing mesh to your new mesh. For that, I'd recommend this script: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/11841-blender-bone-weight-copy-script-23a/
thatTESguy Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 For blender, use the above. If you are a student, you can (legally) get a free version of 3ds max from autodesk. This is my routine for 3ds: Find an importer for your model (too many to list) (If model already skinned): Move bones so that the new model "looks like" a skyrim model (fingers are by far the hardest to align correctly, which is necessary for skinning them individually) (If model not skinned): Use soft selection / painting tools to do the same. (Can take a very long time) Delete all existing skin info Use "Skin Wrap", select existing skyrim body/hands/feet, "use faces", "weight all points", "export to skin modifier" - you're 80% there already Tweak remaining skin modifiers (takes experience - look at how weights work esp. around joint areas) Export
