Guest test1 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 An issue I have had with Oblivion ever since I can remember, which seems to persist no matter what I have installed, is one with leveled loot lists on npcs. This seems to affect npcs who are usually in quest locations. For example, for the Meridia quest, when I kill the necromancers, they often have dozens of strong potions instead of only a few. In other instances, dead archers will have hundreds of arrows, or five to ten each of several dozen types of expensive enchanted arrows. I have considered using Enhanced Economy to help with this problem, and setting it to remove most weapons and potions, but when I set it to remove items, my game started crashing. Does anyone know of a real fix for this leveled loot list problem? gregathit Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 What you most likely have is leveled list plugins that are each adding things via scripts to their inventories. Another thing you might check into is how long ago you rebuilt your bashed patch (if you have added non-lovers plugins or taken them out of your load order - or just moved them around, then you will need to rebuild your bashed patch). Sometimes these level list scripts can cause problems by being in the bashed patch as they exist in the mod and the bashed patch and serve to then double things up on you. Errant scripts can cause nightmares to try to track them down. Probably the simplest and quickest method to tracking down things is to go and get either Refscope or FormID Finder from the nexus and then use it to find out what plugin the items are coming from. Then you can work backward to correct the error or remove the plugin(s) from your load order.
Poontank Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 It's quite normal for the necromancers in the Meridia quest to carry tons of potions, even the console version (xBox 360 in my case) has this effect. There is mention of it as a bug on UESP's page for this quest ("Hunting Necromancers" paragraph). And sometimes the Dark Guardians in Fort Farragut are carrying hundreds of arrows. But what's so bad about getting lots of items? Sell them (ideally one by one) to boost your mercantile skill! If you use the Bash Patch tweaks 'Reweigh Arrows' and 'Reweigh Potions' and set them to 0.1, encumbrance won't be a factor anymore. The latter is also helpful if you have ever created a potion using watermelons or pumpkins as ingredients and thus messed up the respective potion's weight.
Guest test1 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 It just annoys me because when you use the bash patch reweighs (which I do), combined with some of the thief type mods I run, it just makes it too easy to get money. I'd like to make it harder to get cash, and gaining tons of it from easy mobs kills the immersion for me.

This is always a tough issue as there are just so many damn exploits in both vanilla and plugins. Apart from spending a whole lot of time customizing esm\esp files, you basically have to just head canon that all gear\equipment is broken\damaged and limit yourself to looting the gold, or something similar.
Poontank Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 It's probably that I might not be too seriously role-playing so it's not a problem to me owning insane amounts of money. On the other hand, maybe this is in character for my main avatar after all since she is an exiled princess and erotic super star. Only natural for her to be so filthy rich. Very soon I'm going to break Garcemac's 25 million Septim record. And only a few more points to go until I finally maxed out my mercantile skill, all by tediously selling single items. I wouldn't even know what to buy with all that money. However I admit to speeding up the process of (needlessly) getting rich by traditionally setting the value of every modded item I add to the game to 9001 and exclusively sell items to the Midas avatar. Some may call it cheating. I rather consider player.additem f 10000000 cheating.
Guest test1 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I have had over 750,000 at one point. I did the "steal the crown" quest from Shezrie's Towns. I don't have it anymore, though, because I also use one of the Enhanced Economy's higher house price plugins, and I blew it all buying every vanilla house in the game. I like finding expensive things to buy and then saving up the cash for them because it just feels more rewarding to me. It has just occurred to me, though, that if I can't use Enhanced Economy to remove items because it starts crashing, that what I can easily do is just reweigh all the potions again in my bash patch to be much heavier. That would encourage me to not pick them up as often. I never use potions anyway since I prefer to stab things in the back.
Poontank Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 That's actually a perfect example how to use a Bash tweak rather creatively. Editing a gameplay element in an uncommon way to enhance the game's role-playing aspect. Good idea! Before I started using 'Supreme Magicka' I rarely ever drank potions at all. Now I carry a limited assortment of a few potions for emergencies. Before, being low on Magicka never was a factor. Now lowly mobsters gang up on me and every hedge necromancer summons three Gloom Wraiths at once .
