Continuing SaddleBone Headaches

A while back, I was having issues attaching a SaddleBone to a humanoid skeleton, to no success.

Since then, I DID IT WOO, but the game still freaks out and gives up without actually linking the actors. No big deal, that was just a fun/joke mod anyway.

Now I'm back, with a NEW, stupider/simpler problem!

I'm using an existing rideable skeleton on a compatible mesh, but the player sits in the wrong spot. Easily fixed by moving the SaddleBone a little bit! ...Except that it won't budge in Nifskope.

Any transformations I try, do not appear to take effect at all. The numbers go up, but the node stays put. If I move the spine node it's attached to, it is forced to move, however when I apply the changes to the spine... the spine saves correctly and the SaddleBone jumps back to its starting point! orz

Is there a flag or something I'm missing? I can't see anything that might be disabling changes or locking it in place, and yet...

I can't reach the steering wheel! ?

The alternative is of course to say "to Oblivion with the skeleton" and just adjust the mesh accordingly, as I did here:

...but the nicer mesh has like 30 pieces that I'd rather not fiddle with repeatedly. This low quality one was only 3 pieces and took about 6 tries to get just right close enough.

EDIT: Still no luck moving that damned SaddleBone, but I played around with another mesh. It looks pretty ok, but the character's foot pokes out a little when seated on the right :T
