steelpanther24 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Are there any games out there close to the old TSR Star Frontiers style of game? No Man's Sky is good, but it seems you are on one planet. Also, not looking for MMOs (don't have the time), so games like Star Wars Galaxies are out.

Also, NMS is more of a survival game than a RPG, hell it may have elements of an RPG but so does Madden. NMS is NOT an RPG, some even say Skyrim is not an RPG, I would say it is more an aRPG like Diablo since it is all about the loot, essentially. cRPGs like Baldur's Gate or NWN 1/2, etc are more a classic RPG, along with FO 1+2/T. jRPGs are similar in that respect as well, but have recently gone almost aRPG in some respects, instead of the classic jRPG turn based fights. I have NMS on my wishlist, along with rebel galaxy but what I really would love to get is a game that is like an updated Wing Commander Privateer or Star Wars Galaxies, just single player. Hell, I would settle for a space based Sid Meier's Pirates style game, and that wasn't really an RPG, because you pretty much had to be a pirate.
Talamaeus Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Star Citizen is rumored to have support for mods after release, but it likes to melt computers because the graphics are insane, and its still being developed (contrary to popular claims, SC is actually steadily making progress. But it is a massive and highly ambitious project.) Freelancer isn't completely dead yet. Freelancer is one of my all-time favorite games, and it's a lot like Privateer. The modding community for that is quite impressive for a 17 year old game. Here is a link to their community: https://the-starport.net/ IF you're looking for something with pilot interactions/controls, then NMS might be a good idea, and you are definitely NOT confined to one planet, it just takes a bit (a few hours maybe) to get off the first planets and out of the first system. DarkStar One was fun too. Everspace is a Rogue-Like that might be fun, though it's more action than RPG (though you do get to level up your ship and its equipment each time you die)

If Star Citizen is supporting mods. that will be even better.
Talamaeus Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Well Star Citizen isn't finished yet. Freelancer is a favorite of mine.
