skyromancee Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Hi. I am new to modding. I have came across a hug animation that I liked, and I wonder if it is possible to actually use it to replace the original hug animation. I know I can use the new animation with extra options to the NPCs, though, I want to know if it is possible to totally cancel out the old ones, instead. Thanks for your time.

I wasn't aware Skyrim had default Hug animations. At what point in the game do they get used? I've never seen any in game that weren't from a mod.

I have seen the animation on mods like Vilja the follower, and Free Hug Mod. Those are the kind I want to replace.

This mod comes with no animation files, you don't need to run or even have FNIS installed, it's a vanilla animation, I just don't recall ever having seen it used. Given that no one else corrected me, I wonder how many others knew about this? Looking inside the Animations BSA it's called paired_huga.hkx You can play it ingame via console by targetting a character and entering playidle pa_huga The simple option I suspect, with a modded game, that you already have meshes\actors\character\animations\ in your data folder, if so then try renaming your new hug animation to paired_huga.hkx and placing it in the animations folder. If you don't have that file struction then create it and then place the new (renamed) animation there. Skyrim will automatically use the loose files over the ones in a BSA so will use your new animation, providing it's named correctly. However if your new hug animation is 2 seperate hkx files, one for actorA and one for actorB then this won't work and I can't help you as you'd need to amend the scripts that Free Hugs uses.
skyromancee Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 Thanks a lot for the information and all the time you spent on acquiring it for me. I appreciate it. I will give those a try and see if I can actually replace it.
