Installing FO3 (first one) on Windows 7

Greetings,

I would like to request some help in figuring out how to install FO3 on Windows 7.

My "FO3:New Vegas" installed just fine and I don't understand why FO3 won't work. I have tried using compatibility settings (XP, Vista) to no avail. I have also tried giving the installer Administrative rights and selecting an install folder outside of "Program files"...the installer just hangs and does nothing.

My aim is to use the mod "Requiem for Fallout3" but I cannot if I can't get FO3 to install.

If you have any information on the steps to take to get the installer to complete it's job, please let know.

Thank you.

Very strange.......

Is it a retail (disc) version that you are trying to install?

Walk us through what you are doing and what errors you are having. The more info you can give us the more likely we are to find the problem and solve it! :)

Yes, it is a retail disc version I am using.

What happens is this:

-Insert Disc into DVD drive.

-Autoloader starts the setup program automatically.

-Cancel autoloaded setup program and open/explore dvd drive.

-Right-click setup.exe and change compatibility settings to "Windows XP".

-Click "ok" and close properties screen.

-Right-click "setup.exe" and choose "Run as Administrator".

-Click YES on prompt.

-Click through installation prompts and change installation directory to "C:\installed games".

-Click through prompts and start installation.

-Sit through loading/installation screen.

This is where the installer seems to just hang and never do anything. I even left it running overnight and came back the next morning to the installer sitting at the same distance in the progress bar. No HD lights flashing or anything...totally idle. The installer/setup process in task manager also showed "0% CPU Usage"

I'm stumped...

Err, you don't need to change the compatibility to Windows XP. Usually emulated XP mode as you did, sometimes causes issues as I found out.

I installed Fallout 3 without having to change compatibility. The disc went in and ran the installer.

Yea, I am kinda confused why you think you need to set it to XP compatibility mode? It should install and play fine under Win7....at least mine does.....

How about just sticking the disk in and instead of canceling the auto installation just roll with it.......

Let us know if it doesn't work.

Well, when I tried to run the installer straight from the dvd without any changes, it did the same thing.

Maybe it's my computer...I dunno. All I know is that FO3 won't install.

:( :(

Crud...
