raldnok Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 So I have several characters but I have only been using one since I added some mods. If I unchecked all the mods in Data Files before starting up Skyrim, should I be able to play those non-mod-using characters safely as long as I never play them while using a mod? And if I enabled my mods again and played my modded character, all the stuff I set up should still be there and things should run smoothly right? (I mean, as smooth as is normal for messing around with mods I guess, been getting a lot of CTDs lately )
Guest Plastrader Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I belive so yes. As the mod info is stored in the save game.
BSnake Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Yup, it should work that way. As long as you don't save while your mods are enabled, your non-modded characters' saves will never contain info about those mods. Keep in mind that SKSE cannot be de-activated without being uninstalled completely (to my knowledge at least). If you have it installed, it will probably continue generating its own .skse save files for both your modded and non-modded characters. SKSE saves contain info about mods that depend on it, but I'm not sure if it will keep saving if those mods are de-activated. Seems to be a hassle to keep de-activating mods whenever you want to play your non-modded characters, though.
raldnok Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Thanks, that answers my question. Yes, it is a bit of a hassle but it's easier than having to actually remove all the mods and then put them back in place and make sure all the settings are correct, etc., if I want to turn them back off and then on. I'm not using any mods that use SKSE fortunately.
Guest Plastrader Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I don't know how you manage your save games. There's on thing I just thought of, which you may or may not know already. But in case you don't. Drop the console(I'm assuming you're on a real platform) type: save "" Press enter. example: save "myToon lvl4" This will create an unique save game.
raldnok Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Yes, I almost always use the console to save my games.
raldnok Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Just noticed something odd: I disabled all my datafiles besides official content & The Paarthurnax Dilemma, and I found that the ladies are still using the custom animations and morphs. However, renaming the Data/meshes folder to something else forces them back to the default, vanilla appearance. Whew.

If it finds folders such as meshes, textures and etc the game will load the content of them. Mostly because modders are lazy and doesn't pack their additional files in a .bsa. I really hope they would start doing that TBH, as it would be alot easier to maintain the mods then.
