Guest Lady Luck Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Loverslab Winner of Best Strategy on Classic Genre Last voted By Greg Developer(s) Cavedog Entertainment (A sub-division of Humongous Entertainment) Publisher(s) GT Interactive Designer(s) Chris Taylor Artist(s) Clayton Kauzlaric[1] Composer(s) Jeremy Soule Version 3.1c Platform(s) Microsoft Windows, Mac OS Release date(s) September 30, 1997[2] Genre(s) Real-time strategy Mode(s) Single-player, Multiplayer Media/distribution CD CD universe link : http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/games/pid/1572507/a/Total+Annihilation.htm Retail price : $13.95 used : $1.00 This game Was Made By Chris taylor and published By GT interactive originally this is A sandbox RTS meaning it's the first RTS that was published in open souce trend , The game has story but not really comprehensive games like Starcraft, warcraft and classic Age of empires ... but seriously if you see Guide Book its overkill both of the classic game and has detailed instruction of each units. whoa wait does that mean you said " the game sucks" no wait don't rush any cunclosion yet. [video=youtube] The game basically have your standard RTS strategy but boy it was hard to understand , well it's harder then starcraft .. at least better then Starcraft not meaning it's superior [ when i compare games like especially starcraft and sayed not superior is because TA has some great moments the mechanics just overkill because of its AI and animation are more comprehensive then classic starcraft that is why i treat both game equally but if you ask my opinion TA is better period] , unlike any games i seen i felt like Total Annihilation is like predecessor of Anno 1040 [Felt like the original game] Both game is hard as hell and have similiar gameplay a little. does this truly stands for " TRUE RTS platform "hell yes Total annihilation made the modding part much easier without any hard effort, i seriously made my own units like 10 seconds and that is just snap easy shit even easier then rise of nations. the annoying part i didn't like about total annihilation is the difficulty setting sometimes the difficulty setting will go like easy>easy>hard>hard and then medium WTF!, that's like pissing me off at least this game is fun, when even difficulty is fucked up you always have back up plan to support each mission when you play through entire campaign. [ infact i didn't own the game back in 90's thanks to greg i experience the good ol 90's again reviewing and researching about this game , have awosome experience on it] between the first and second one easily the best game ever made , there isn't much to hate about this game other then difficulty and the story it self the music isn't much on this game but at least what can i say the open source and it's ability to mod this game so easily even a grandma can do it , therefore this game earn LL sealed of approval to be the best game ever voted. that brings us the verdict This game has so much potential although it's sad that this game doesn't see light and day, there's so many modders out there mod the crap out of this game that feels so new and fresh, why do i say this game is a true platform of Original RTS , here's why.. A real rts will have open source and a sandboxed feel, its not how best your graphic are its how best your game are played and how best your game is designed ,with the game made open source trend and everyone can make their own mods to change gameplay it remain classic and there's no other game that built this so good. i just wish this game has reebot or at least a nicer engine. Rating Music :7.9/10 Gameplay : 9.8/10 [ difficulty had to be tweaked] graphics : pretty standard for its time but i can understand its 1998 updates : pretty standard patch fixes most problem to original game. Units/faction concept : 10/10 original better then starcraft Story : Pretty generic Science fiction stuff Mod community : 10/10 amazing alot of talented people! FInal Rating : 10/10 A Must get game.
