Sneaksmile Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 Hello. A few days ago when I was installing a damn windows 10 update, a blue screen appeared talking about the Windows Kernel, more specifically the error was: '' Kernel Data INPage error '' After that ... the PC rebooted automatically but a message appeared at the start saying: '' The boot disk cannot be found '' When I checked the Bios, the disk only had and now has a size of 128 GB, when its original size is 1 TB. Before it had NTFS format but now it has UDF format ... WTF?! Now when I start the PC, the damaged disk makes a strange sound, a double sound like a rat's shriek. I had to install windows on my slave disk to try to fix the damaged disk from there, but windows does not recognize the damaged disk in any way, even the PowerShell console command '' Diskpart '' does not recognize the damn disk, it is as if it was not connected but the Bios recognizes it. The only tab where windows recognizes the damaged disk is in the 'disk manager' tab but I cannot do anything with it. Any action I try stops with an error that says: '' The request cannot be made due to an I/O or S/E error '' I even bought EaseUS Partition Master to try to fix the disk but when I try to analyze and repair it ... it says that the analysis and repair of only 128 GB will take 850 hours ... WTF?!! ... so it is impossible to repair in that way. So. I finally decided that the disk cannot be repaired. So I wanted to format the disk and then recover it's data with a recovery program, but to my surprise ... I can't even format the damn disk, when I try to do it, appears a message that says: '' The action cannot be done because the disk is locked against writing '' I don't know what else to do. I really need the information on that disk. The disk have my personal and original Mods for The Sims 4, Skyrim, and Saints Row, in which I was working and I have invested time in them and I don't have a backup of those files, besides many Photoshop art projects, and I can't take the disk with a computer technician because it has sensitive information and that information is very easy to find if someone unknown accesses to the disk, among other things it has confidential credit card numbers, passwords of all my social networks profiles and also very personal information about my family, and personal sex photos and videos. At least someone can tell me how to unlock the damn disk to be able to format it? I'm tired of looking for useless tutorials that are precisely useless, on Google. Thanks.
windlepoons Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 My experience is very old. A disk just stopped loading Windows, it hung on boot. I ended up installing the damaged disk as a slave onto another PC running Linux, which worked in that I could get at the data. Not sure if this is a way round this issue though, Linux used to be more robust on mounting disks than Windows but not sure if that's still the case. PS your Fetlife link isn't working.

Thanks but I already did that with a YouTube tutorial, I have installed Linux on a 16 GB USB, but the result is the same, the disk is not recognized by Linux, but it is even worse, because Linuxs has no options to repair a disk , or if it have them ... I don't know which options are ... everything is confusing there.

I must also say that I am no longer interested in accessing the disk to repair it, I am angry with that fucking thing. I just want to format it and then recover the data with EaseUs.
windlepoons Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 I'm just doing a little reading - I think you said BIOS recognizes it - as a NTFS or UDF? UDF is usually for DVDs I think.

Sneaksmile Posted August 20, 2019 Author Posted August 20, 2019 Just now, windlepoons said: I'm just doing a little reading - I think you said BIOS recognizes it - as a NTFS or UDF? windlepoons Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 If it were my PC to potentially damage, I would see if I could change it to NTFS in BIOS and see what happened. But I must be honest I do not know.

That's why I bought EaseUS Partition Master, but when I try to do that it tells me that the disk is protected against writing.

The guys in that site think they are very rude and very open minded, but most of them (specially the owners) are only fakers and cry babies.
Sneaksmile Posted August 22, 2019 Author Posted August 22, 2019 Nobody else? I really need help with this ?
Sneaksmile Posted August 22, 2019 Author Posted August 22, 2019 Please help me with this: But also ... The Steam core (not the games) was installed on that damaged disk. I didn't worry because I thought all my save files were safe on Steam but when I entered to my account a few hours ago ... it tells me now I must install all the games again! From scratch! This had never happened to me before. What going to happen?! Have all the saves been eliminated? OMG!! I don't want to install any games again because it makes me afraid that there will be no saved files after the installation of games! Has this happened to anyone? Also, why I should install all the games again? If all are already installed on my slave disk for games ... You know in: '' Steam\steamapps\common '' ... Besides ... I have a lot of games with the installation directory modified with a LOT of Mods, if I install a game again I will have to do all that?! ... That took me a LOT of time and effort because I am not an expert girl on this!! And some Mods are already impossible to get because they were removed or hidden by their authors ... DAMN!! ... What should I do?! I am very sad ?
Reginald_001 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Step 1: Hook up an external USB and backup everything. Not sure where you are with this, but this seems relevant to your situation: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/how-to-fix-windows-10-error-kernel-data-inpage-error.2752278/ It looks like you have hardware failures. You need to figure out if it's the memory or the disk. There are programs built into Windows that can help you scan your memory for errors: https://www.howtogeek.com/260813/how-to-test-your-computers-ram-for-problems/ With CheckDisk (also built into Windows) you can scan the disk for errors. Once found, either replace the disk or the memory.

Because the disk is not even recognized by windows with a label, you know: '' C '' or '' D '' or '' E '', etc. Nothing ... now the disk do not have any. I haven't done the second thing. I'll try it. Thanks. It's just the disk, as I said I have installed Windows on another disk and the PC works perfectly and it worked perfect until that damn update of the damn Windows Update. I don't see any hardware problem besides that disk. I can't scan the disk. I tried with EaseUS and it takes 850 damn hours, it's crazy. The PC or the power box is going to explode and the damn analysis is not going to complete.
Sneaksmile Posted August 22, 2019 Author Posted August 22, 2019 I no longer want to repair the disk. I just want to format it. Can't someone please just tell me how to unlock it against writing in a really effective way to be able to erase it's data and recover it later with EaseUS? I can't be the only girl in the world to whom this has happened ...
Guest Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 I'd advice you to get a new one instead of trying to keep using yours. If it gave you issues before it will give you issues later, and the more time goes by the worst it will be. No software or bios setting can fix a hardware malfunction, so If you really intend to recover some of the data, don't try to format or change anything. Then contact some tech service of your trust and see what can be done. Professional services should give you enough safety about your sensible and personal data.

I no longer want to repair it to use it. I just want to format it so that I can retrieve the information that is inside and then I guess I will throw it in the trash. As I said ... that disk worked perfectly until that damn update of the damn Windows Update. If that disk worked perfectly until that windows update then the errors it had are software erros and not hardware errors. Even so, if I manage to get the information of the disk, then I will never going to save anything there again. I will just throw it in the trash, but I need the information and until now I can not get that yet. I don't really trust anyone to do that, so I must do it by myself. As I said, take the disk with a third party is not an option for me. By the way ... some time ago another of my disks got damaged. I formatted it and then I took out all its information with EaseUS. So ... I know that this recovery method is very effective! Because I already did it once, but that disk was not protected against writing. I just need to know how to remove the write protection and do the same thing I did that time on the other disk.
Sneaksmile Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 I can't believe nobody helped me with this, motherfuckers. It doesn't matter anymore, I already solved it myself. I think that after all there are no experts here, it's like any other cheap internet computing forum.
