HELP!!!

Hi folks i'm getting an error message that keeps coming up when i'm downloading mods from the site its telling me "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged" now when Microsoft prompt me to find an app to open this zip file i chose Winrar which changed all my files in my mods folder to Winrar logos i think its something i've done but i don't know how to set it back to default what can i do any help would be appreciated thanks

I think you try open .esp file, its mod file, not archive

thanks for getting back to me. How do I go about doing that?

it downloads from the site but when it gets to 100% that's the message I get. Other mods it works fine without getting the message like whickedwhims base mod for example downloaded and is working fine
