Iron Arrow Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Hi gang. I've been tottering my way through the game and managed to screw things up. Got lost trying to find my way into the Oblivion Tower during the main quest when entering the gate near Anvil. Stumbled into the infamous 'this door leads nowhere' error. I tried to fix it by installing the unofficial Oblivion Patch, Unofficial Shivering Isles patch, and Unofficial Official Mods Patch - and instead only succeeded in destroying my game, which I am now having to rebuild from scratch. I'm no longer bothered about the error, since it is not a critical quest to complete; I'm happy to leave the Anvil gate be as long as I can get the savegame up and running again, but it did get me curious about something: Although my Knights of the Nine/Shivering Isles has come from an iso, the actual game I own (base install) is the 5th anniversary edition. So my question is: are these unofficial patches worth bothering with, given my version of the game is likely the most up to date you can buy? I ask only so that I don't end up installing stuff that is not only unnecessary but may threaten game stability. Seeing as I'm doing a scratch install, if they need to be installed then now's the time to do it, but only if I have to! Appreciate any enlightenment you can chuck my way.
Someone92 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 The latest official update of Oblivion is 1.2.0416 and was released on 4/30/2007. Newer game of the years edition may have more DLC content than previous editions (just guessing here) but they don't contain new patches so the unofficial patches are still very useful. About a year ago I wrote a small guide how to set up a fresh install of Oblivion, in the meantime I've switched some mods out but it should still be useful as a basis: http://www.ryonani.com/normal-games/2918-tes4-oblivion-endless-journey-heavily-modified-yet-smoothly-running-version.html
