my9strings Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 I’ve been going over what i’m doing wrong for 4 days and I can’t for the life of me figure out what i’m missing here. Just as an FYI I use MO and this is Oldrim also not having any grey face bug issues. I made a head using ECE and charGen export to add as a replacement for the head of a custom follower I downloaded. The custom follower has 2 custom .dds files for the body that are applied at certain points in the game. The skintone data from my head .nif file and tint file will not translate over to the body skins and I have no idea how to get that info to process. I have even tried redirecting the .nifs and .dds files to just use my default textures and mesh replacements but the body color still won’t match the head. Can an anyone please help me understand what i can do to fix this? Thank you for reading.
RW311 Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Since you didn't state this, did you add the skin tone data to the esp? Were the textures added to body with texture set and you didn't swap those with your own textures, assuming you used different textures that is? Does npc use template data for body swap and if so what flags are active?, you would have to update the skin tone data of the template npc as well if it has certain flags, I have to go look at which can't think of exactly which flag will use different body
my9strings Posted June 4, 2019 Author Posted June 4, 2019 Thanks for your reply:) i’m not sure how to add the skintone to the .esp. that might be the culprit. I did add the FaceTint where it’s supposed to go, but yeah the color is just on the face. I’ll look up how to do this. Yep, the textures were added to the texture set. The character default is wearing prisoner pants so I swapped out the .nifs for my default body nifs and textures using TES5Edit. I’m not sure about this either. I’ll look up how to do this too. Maybe more details will help, the mod i’m working on is Kaidan2. And he uses two custom textures based on Better Males mesh, I believe; one bloody and one scarred. Both bodies wear a custom prisoner pants as a default and they act as underwear so he is never naked. I use SAM (Shape Atlas for Men) light and i’ve managed to change his pants mesh into a SAM body. I changed the pants mesh because there are some spell mechanics that change him from bloody to scarred and I don’t want to break the mechanics. But whether I use the default pants mesh or the nude body mesh and direct the files to the default textures or the custom textures, his torso is always a different color from his head, feet and hands. I’ll get a better pic but this is what’s been happening
RW311 Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Screenshot shows your tint layers are setup fine since hands updated. Ok after looking at mod, if you change the body textures you will have this problem because when wearing those pants body normal texture is changed by texture set. No way to keep that body texture and use your other textures and have them match unless you modify that body texture or make a new normal with the scars.. You will need to extract textures from bsa textures used for pants body are in 0Kaided\Actor\0KaidedBodytexscarred (other texture is 0KaidedBodytexWounded) If you don't want to edit the texture or make a new one and don't care about losing the scarred body then remove the texture set from the armoraddon for the pants, both sets and it will use default body textures instead.
my9strings Posted June 4, 2019 Author Posted June 4, 2019 Omg you’re a modding wizard angel!! Thank you so much!! This has been driving me insane. So it’s the normals. I extracted the .bsa so I could copy the file format for my overwrite mod, but I was so focused on the diffuse files I never even opened the mod’s normal file to see if it had the scars built into it. The pants can go, i’m not married to him being a nevernude, lol. Right now he is nude with an edited version of the bloody/scarred textures, of my default skin replacement, using the default replacement normal, and the SAM meshes. So while I have edited the textures to match the SAM mesh and skin, he always looks like he’s wearing a body suit with the bloody/scarred textures from the neck down. So just to make sure I am following you correctly, if I want to try to keep the bloody/scarring effect (from my edited textures) AND have the head and body match, I need to edit a copy of the default skin replacement normal file from my textures to have the bloody/scarring effect and replace the mod normal with that? If if this isn’t possible then i’ll just remove the texture set as you suggested. At this point i’d rather his body just match his head. Regardless i I cannot thank you enough and I am going to fix this as soon as I get home from work!
RW311 Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 " if I want to try to keep the bloody/scarring effect (from my edited textures) AND have the head and body match, I need to edit a copy of the default skin replacement normal file from my textures to have the bloody/scarring effect and replace the mod normal with that" Right, you want to replace those two texture files the 0kaidedbodytexwounded and 0kaidedbodytexscarred with your own versions that match your normals, or edit the texture set data to change the file paths whatever is easier for you.

my9strings Posted June 5, 2019 Author Posted June 5, 2019 Thank you guys both for your help! I've been at it all night but no luck I'm afraid. Yatol - I'm not so sure I'm ready to tackle that sort of modding yet, but I appreciate the suggestion. It would be nice to have a personalized skin altogether. Maybe I'll look into it more on the weekend:) RW311 - So I did edit the normal and added the scars but even after that I still had that color mismatch, so I then removed the texture set but still nothing. I apologize but I think what is getting to me may be a new issue so I took a new pic tonight. The body hands arms etc match but even when removing the texture set from my override and the original mod of course, but the neck upwards is still a different color. The body color pictured is the default color of my skin replacer, so it's just like even after deleting the texture set something is still blocking the game from seeing that the body and head should be the same color. Any other ideas by chance?
RW311 Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 Seems like just tint layers aren't matching from what you exported to what is in the npc data. You changed the diffuse and normal to your default body and there were no head textures so that is all I can think of. This is using the facegen tint texture that was exported? I guess it would almost have to be but maybe check to be sure.
my9strings Posted June 10, 2019 Author Posted June 10, 2019 Hiya so sorry for the late response but again thank you! So still ill not sure what’s up but I looked at him in bright light and the seam is gone so only in dark lighting. I checked my enb and I already had the tintgamma fix in place, so that wasn’t it. I also looked around more online and I did make my skin. I wondered if that was the issue. It’s a mashup of a few other skins and I use the SAM light high poly body. All other male NPCs look just fine and barely have a seam in any lighting. Regardless, I ended up making some edits to my normal, my diffuse, and .sk to see if that changed anything and while it’s not a perfect fix I was able to minimize the seam for him. His head still has a different glow in low light than his body but at this point I give up. It’s so strange because every other male head matches regardless of lighting. Also finally got his body to use the scarred normal and textures, but it only triggers when equipping him for the first time. Thank you you guys for being kind enough to look and help out. You all definitely gave me some good pointers and made me re-examine and fix my texture set up:)
