Ubuntu to be exact. I was told by a friend that since Linux doesn't eat your ram how Windows does, that it might run faster. I'm planning on keeping XP for the programs that aren't compatible with WINE (I've been researching. I am literally downloading Ubuntu now.)

I had been planning on giving Linux a try to see if I could free myself from Windows.

I saw on a youtube video that I needed to type a command but I couldn't understand the guy (lol). Could one of you kind people link me to a good tutorial or walk me through the process.

Also - will I be able to use SKSE and my existing mod (data) files or will I have to transfer my mods via stick drive?

Thanks for the info!

Well i had ubuntu till some month ago after some headaches as i was new whit linux i made Wow at that time to work as that is what i was playing but somehow i did not make it work correctly somehow the graphic were locked at low so after that i quit. So sadly i cannot help you whit much but if some one would have a nice guide i will try it once again for sure. It is much faster then a windows.

An edit to the post:

What you can try in order to make them work is either you use wine or crossover.Crossover is a better option but you will need to pay 60$ if i remember correctly

I haven't tried Skyrim in Linux, but I have some games set up running in Wine. I run Fedora (currently version 16). I had Oblivion running at one time, including the CS. Blender, Gimp, and NifSkope run natively

Unix user for 30 years...

If you have 4 GB RAM or more, make sure to get 64 bit Ubuntu and run 32 bit Wine in it. A little hard to configure, but works well once it is done.

Some things run flawlessly in Wine (I was playing Diablo 2 for weeks without a hitch). Other things may have problems.

SKSE should work. I think your question was regarding file transfer - if your file system is FAT32 it will work perfectly. NTFS is supported, should work fine. If you have the disk space, make a new file system with ext2 or ext3 and copy the files over.

Hope this helps.

Don't know if I can post links here, let's see if this works...

That's the Wine page for Skyrim.

I have enough issues running my modded SKSE/FNIS heavy Skyrim in Windows so have opted to dual boot, even with the recent native steam client for Ubuntu.
