livebyhonor Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 This is something I thought of the first time I came across these people that wont even follow their own rules. On day 1 of any ones skyrim days you are 99% likely to get jumped by an assassin on your journey. After easily dispatching this weakling you search him/her and find there is a contract out on you from the dark brotherhood. That means someone has already preformed the black sacrament, and paid them to hunt you down and kill you. though they never ever try again. I have played enough of their story, and they always complete their assigned hits. So I guess they just dont care about their hits being successful. Also there is the little boy in windhelm that wants you to off old orphanage woman. I have played one toon where I never talk to him but do so many other quests. So from a game time perspective, that young lad preformed the sacrament calling the brotherhood to him about 14 months ago (in that toon time line) so I guess they are even more care free on their hits that they figure, ah heck, will check on that one next year. Last but not least, they let you become a member, ONE OF THEIR HITS, that they just chose to ignore. I think this is why I have never completed their quest line, because if they don't care about their hits, i don't care about the hits they ask me to do. I am not that good at all at making mods/work around but i am hoping that someone makes a dilemma work around like the Parthunaxx one. One that might allow them to keep trying to hunt you down, sending out more and more powerful hitters until you decide to go and just wipe them out. Or you join their side and make a reverse hit on the person that put the original hit on you. and put a "to late timer" on Avernus Aurturo (the little boy) quest, where if you don't make it to him on time the dark brotherhood actually decides to take their own contract for a change. Just my thoughts on these rule disregarding rule sticklers.
Veta Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 I dont know about the rest of you guys but i found the dark brotherhood final quests to be some of the best in the game all others in one way or another featured magick be it the thieves guild or the "companions" . About Aventus Arentino it is the only way to get begin DB quests . To be completely honest i too was bothered a bit by the assassin trying to kill you . I believe the best way to make it lore friendly would be to make the assassin you kill Astrid' son (or daughter) that would explain why !!!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!! she betrays you !!!!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!!.
srayesmanll Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 As far the random assassins: Actually I always get multiple assassination attempts on my PC. My question is - if you join the DB, do the random attacks stop? If so, you can look at it as a "if you can't kill him, recruit him" scenario. If they don't stop after you are recruited, then yes it was not thought out very well by Bethesda (par for the course some would say). The Arentino hook to join the DB was very badly written. Every tavern keeper from Markarth to Riften knows about Arentino, yet the DB never shows up? Getting a bit lax aren't they, although that kind of seems like a theme with the Skyrim DB. Hell, even Maven has problems getting their attention according to a letter in the Blackbriar home. Still, they should have had it that only the Windhelm tavern keeper gave that quest out. Or maybe like Oblivion where the DB quest is activated whenever you do your first murder.
Remy Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I still remember that awesome feeling when i first done the quest for DB in oblivion, where you had to enter the main city prison and assassinate that elf. It was pure sneaky feeling, no killing just trying to get trough to my target, i dont know but i never felt that in skyrims DB quest. Some of these quests are written so badly that it sometimes feels they had an 8yr old doing them. The whole thing with Arentino was one of the worst ideas for an assassination quest i ever saw in a game. No wonder soon after playing the vanila, i couldnt bear it any longer and started to put mods in, before i even finished the game. Plenty of quests are done just so they activate without any more deeper meaning...sigh. And when i thought it couldnt get any worser, i got that quest at the temple in riften to bring couples together. Especially the Calcelmo part...i think it was written on a toilet.
Guest Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 It almost seems like they took a huge step backwards with Skyrim compared to Oblivion. They dumbed down the talent customization to a point where it's just boring and you don't really care if you get a lvl up,almost no insteresting NPCs,pretty much no quests that made you go "wow, now that was awesome" and the MAIN QUEST is a fucking joke. The only thing that got around 500% better are the animations and the combat system (the vanilla oblivion combat looked like some low-budget browser game bullshit, srsly) except for the glorious idea to make magic take up a weapon slot... Worst part are the quests imo. I haven't played much of Oblivion but the first few parts of the main quest (till the point where you defend Kvatch against the Daedra invasion) were already more interesting than pretty much every quest I did in Skyrim. On the bright side the mods seem to develope way faster than they did in Oblivion and we can hope that they will bring us some more decent content.

Main quest is alright but the faction quests are a joke. Rushed and boring. And nobody gives a fk about who you are when you finished.

[spoiler=major quest spoiler!]The one you get when you kill Astrid instead of the 3 hostages in that shack. Go to rnd Penitus Oculatus guy,go to DB hideout, kill everyone, get out. And congratulations, you're done!... Now that was the embodiment of pure garbage.
Remy Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Yeah lol...just horrible...i mean you have this huge world filled with stuff that is useless and all you do is fetch and kill...there are a few exceptions but just a few. Its just crazy to think that you are lvl 80 and you still do the same you did at lvl 1..absolutely no progress. You would think that choosing a certain path in your skills will open alot of possibilites...but there are none...like the assassin for example....the same way you backstab, the same way you will at lvl 80...no special moves....no traps...no smoke bombs or anything...no leaning to a wall....nothing...just crouch and backstab 1-80...thats the whole assassin gameplay. The loot in this game is a total joke...the only reason to explore is just to ...explore, since there is nothing valuable in all of these tombs. While mods are certainly the only reason why i still play...even with them im having hard time to stay playing longer then for 1h. No mather how many mods i put in, the core of the game is so dumbed down it overshadows everything good. I wish the creators of the first two gothic games would get money and lots of people to make a really good open world game :/
polluxval Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 i vote for a mod wich adds all the oblivion quests to skyrim. imagine oblivion with skyrim graphics and combat and movement system. i know this is a dream but well... one can only hope.
Guest Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Well you can't really add quests that require you to be in a place that doesn't even exist in Skyrim. But a few more interesting quests/NPCs can't hurt.
Emily Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 You can also choose to slay Astrid instead of the those poor hostages.
Guest Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 You can also choose to slay Astrid instead of the those poor hostages. That's exactly what I said before. But the quest you get from slaying Astrid is a fucking joke.
