Before the interweb was created we had things called game magazines and before game magazines we had toy catalogs. All we got to see was a small glimpses of what games would look like before they came out. I was really poor when I was little and couldn't afford a monthly subscription to Nintendo power, but seeing the picture of Super Mario Bros 3 in the JCPenny Christmas catalog was the highlight of my year. I thought to myself there's no way I'll ever get a Nintendo and that game, but I asked anyway. I was 10 years old and had two big presents under the tree that year. One which was a giant box of tmnt figures that almost made me pee my pants. Then as I started to unwrap the other box I noticed the words nes coming out from under the wrapping and blowing my tiny little brain. I freaked and started youtube 64ering like a maniac. The only thing was I didn't get SMB 3 and that was ok because SMB1 came with it!

Later that night at my grand parents house I got only few pairs of socks and some coloring books. My parents let me take the nes with me to play on their color tv. As I was hooking it up my grand dad asked me what I was playing and walked into the room holding a little box in his hand. I had no idea what it was because I'd never seen the size of a game box or anything. It was SMB3!!! I hugged that man and might have wet myself in the process.

I'm 32 now and grand dad passed a few years back, but that was the greatest moment in my gaming life and one of my most fondest Christmas memories of my entire life.

Don't remember how old I was but about 2 weeks before Christmas I went to Walmart with my dad and they had a Nintendo 64 kiosk set up (This is when the N64 was just coming out). It was playing Super Mario 64, I got my chance to play and I loved it, so naturally I asked for one for Christmas, knowing that that probably wasn't going to happen.

Come Christmas morning, opening presents, I open this one small present, and it's a note telling me to go in my room in the closet, I go into my bedroom closet and I find another note directing me somewhere else, eventually I get directed down to the basement and low and behold there is a huge bag sitting there. It was a Nintendo 64. I flipped my shit basically. And yes he bought Super Mario 64 as well. Later on we had a whole bunch of kids over and we basically just played N64 all day. I still remember spending hours just swimming around in the lake outside the castle not knowing wtf to do but not giving a shit because it was just so damn awesome!

Oh and that penguin slide....My god to put a child through that nightmare...lol.

Unwrapping my brand new Sega Genesis. Yes, I'm that old, and no, I don't know why I didn't ask for the SNES. But oh my god, I was so fucking thrilled. I played Sonic all goddamn day.

Sidenote: That was the same year I got Fireball Island (it's a board game). I barely played the game with my friends, we just liked setting up the little men on the bridges and rolling the fireballs over them while making "FWOOOSH!" fire noises and adding tiny screams of pain and horror. It was the best!
