thalmonen Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I'm thinking about getting into 3d modeling, and since there's been a number of custom models used in mods on this site, I thought I'd ask here: what are some good and affordable programs for modeling, rigging, and animation? I'm not looking to spend more than about $500. Is Carrara any good?

It's free powerful, and a pretty good place to start if you are learning. I mostly mod nifs, so the version of Blender that I am most familiar with is 2.49, but the newer versions are pretty damn good too.
Symon Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Assuming you want to model for a Bethesda game, first thing to bear in mind is that you will need Nif import and export. Head on over to the Niftools site to check what is available. However, last I checked the best (read most supported) importer/export was for Blender 2.49.
