Get new content into Skyrim anno 2019

Hello.

I have found various ways on the internet of creating new content for skyrim. But is there a newest and recommended modern way now with all these years gone by and tools being developed and so on?

I have some 3d files i would like to try and get into skyrim. I can get obj files into blender. So i thought of one of 2 ways.

1 was to export as obj and import into outfit studio or nif scope. but. nif skope didnt want to import. and if i import into outfit studio it just doesnot show. i dont know if its because its too small, or one of the many export options on blender was set wrong.

2 was to export as nif. but. i can only make this work for files i imported using nif scripts for blender, not if i imported some obj from other game or resource. i just get an error i dont understand.

maybe there is a third way? 3dsm is not an option. and the old way with old nif scripts and blender 2.49 or whatever, is just too much of a hassle. ill not live through that process.

of course. if i get the object into outfit studio, i will also need to rig. but was hoping i could just copy bone weights from existing outfit.

thanks for any help and or hints.

You can do it in blender with the latest nif scripts but I don't think you can go straight to the game

I have only done it for animObjects never armour

Don't know exactly what you are doing

This might help

Thank you for the help. I have been looking at that link but it only mentions static content and has many options selected that seems to be related to static. It is unclear how to change the process so it works for clothing and armor.

My gut feeling is that the process must be tailored to exactly what you want to do or it won't work. There are so many options that can go wrong.

I will try and get the newest nif scripts for skyrim and see how well they work.

Found these links. Not sure they cover going from OBJ to NIF, but will check how far I can get:

Got time to tinker with this some more. Here's some notes I found, either for myself, or for others that might search for same.

For simple OBJ files, import into Outfit Studio, Copy Bone Weights, Export to NIF will work. Some things I stumbled over was:

OBJ must be simple. I don't know exactly what that means, but if I export an object from DAZ studio for example, I first got one Object in blender with several sub-objects (or whatever they are called). When exporting this into Outfit studio it didn't show up. Here's what worked for me, specific to DAZ: When exporting to OBJ I selected 'Write Groups'. When importing into Blender I left everything as default. I now got several objects in blender. After arranging these and re-exporting they now show up in Outfit Studio as individual shapes/objects, and when exporting from Outfit Studio to NIF each get their own NiTriShape.

Due to scaling and axis mismatch, the imported object must be arranged to fit around whatever scale outfit studio/skyrim is using. So I export the base shape from Outfit Studio to OBJ, and import that into Blender. Then I scale/translate the outfit around the baseshape. Otherwise it might have been imported correctly, but was just so small I couldnt see it.

Exporting a torso outfit seems to work just fine from outfit studio. But other objects I think we must change the dismember properties or they won't show up inside skyrim.
