Can't Get SKSE64 to work [FIXED]

Hello all!

So, I spent the day looking over some mods from Oldrim and decided to try installing some mods that have been ported to SE to eventually migrate over to SE, as I have a lot of stability issues with Oldrim.

Well, in a nutshell: I can't get it to work.

It fired up and ran perfectly fine last night after I installed like 15 or 20 mods. I continued to install some more, mainly the scripting mods like SL Light SE and Devious Cursed Loot and some texture mods like Noble Skyrim, Realistic Water Two and SMIM, and now it just won't run.

What happens is the black box that indicates the executable being active pops up, and then nothing afterwards. I keep an eye on my Steam Library to see Skyrim SE going from a running state, to a state that it is not running. Same in the Task Manager.

I uninstalled some mods like SL Light and Devious and nothing changes.

I don't understand what is the issue, as Oldrim can start up just fine and it has more than double the mods I have here.

A note: I have the same exact problems even when I try to run Skyrim SE through the Steam Launcher as well.

My Load Order is as follows:

Sounds like you may have an oldrim BSA installed, that will keep the game from launching and do exactly what you described. Try to double check that all the mods you have are the SE version or that if they are the oldrim version you have unpacked the BSA (if there was one).

Thank you!

Turns out I made a mistake and installed the Oldrim version of Ordinator and a patch. Game back in working order now.

Where is Steam installed?  If Steam is installed in the UAC-protected C:\Program Files(x86) folder then move it outside of that folder.

After that install SKSE64 without using any mods, just to check if you can launch SSE without having an issue and start a new game then play a little.

This is what I did when I installed SKSE64.

1.  Download the latest SKSE64

2.  Save the archive into an empty folder

3.  Extract the archive into a file named folder e.g SKSE64_2_0_12

4.  Select everything, except for the scr folder as it contains the source code for SKSE64

5.  Right click and create a new archive e.g skse64 2.0.12 with the Data folder and the other files

6.  Extract the archive into the \steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition folder

7.  Then find the skse64_loader.exe and send it as a shortcut to desktop

8.  Launch SSE via the Skyrim SE - SKSE64 shortcut

I always do this without having a single issue, so it should work.

SpyVsPie's suggestion of me installing an Oldrim BSA is what caused my issues before.

I'm just currently dealing with constant CTDs when loading into any character or new game. I feel like I might have to uninstall everything and redo everything at this point.
