Racemenu light and overlays not working

So I'm having an issue with racemenu when starting a new game. The light doesn't seem to activate at all and the overlays page is completely blank. Colors also don't seem to register. However, if I create a character and then use the console to reopen racemenu everything works as intended. This is my load order in case it might have anything to do with it:

Pretty old thread but if someone is looking for the information someday:

 

My guess is that mods that load too early (before racemenu completion) may interfere with racemenu's initialization. You can get it working by restarting from the main menu until it works but I isn't worth it, neither is looking for the mods that cause it (in my oppinion); I spend 15 hours looking for a fix, deactivating mods etc. but found no reliable solution...

 

The more mods you have the more likely this is to happen but I got this with 150 esps active and sometimes it worked with 300 esps.

 

Btw you still can load your presets including overlays, so even if you cannot change them directly in the "first" racemenu you can still use your presets.

Tl;dr:

A modded Skyrim can be too busy on a new game to let Racemenu and it's plugins load properly. Just build your character by preset or at least pick desired race and gender, then setup your mods like always. After that use racemenu command or better ShowRaceMenu Alternative and finetune/build your character. If you use the console command never ever change your name, race or gender, as this will probably break loads of stuff. Using ShowRaceMenu Alternative on the other hand should be safe, but can still confuse mods like SLIF, if you change more then visuals (from my experience).
