What to do before VR comes.

Hey everyone, my rift is on its way and I'm just quickly writing to ask what to expect and if I can organize the game and its mods before the oculus gets to my doorstep. Are there any essential mods to install for better gameplay or tweaks that I should do to the files. And is there any dos or donts with VR, specifically Skyrim VR?

Thanks!

The SkyrimVR subreddit has a lot of information about different changes and mods. You can decide what to use based on your personal preferences.

I for example have disabled all elements of the UI except for the compass and notifications. This makes it way more immersive, but has downsides, for example not knowing how much life the enemy has left or how much health/magica/stamina I have left. So it will depend mostly on you own taste. A lot can be done to modify how SkyrimVR looks and behaves.

My personal advice would be to set aside Skyrim for the first several days and play some VR games. This will help you get used to VR and getting to know the possibilities and limitations it has. There is a promotion going at the moment on Steam so you can get some really good games for cheap.

If you're using Vortex Mod Manager, you can't really do anything until your Rift gets there. Steam VR needs to loadup and it can't really if you don't have a headset set up, so you can't run the game to generate an ini that Vortex, or most any Mod Manager, would need to start modding. If I were you, just start looking for SE mods that you want that aren't super script heavy. Skyrim VR has it's own script extender, SKSEVR, and it's not quite as advanced as SEs yet, but it's getting there.

Thanks for the replies, I've spent a few hours setting up and playing around in VR and I'm absolutely loving it. Skyrim itself is very different from what I've expected. I've escaped Helgen and made it to Riverwood, I than saved and knew it was modding time.
