Ive had this installed for a while now, gotta say I love it.

My only real issue is you have to either do things within specified time frames and a specific order, not quite as open as it seems at first glance.

In a way it reminds me of this (text only) oblivion mod from way back in the day that had prostitution, rape, flirting, romance, etc, all set in a mod added island with several waring villages (before you ask, no I dont have a link, lost the mod years ago in a PC death, and it seems to have vanished, I know casue I did google searches back before I forgot the name for it after I replaced the dead computer)

I liked this game a lot until I got to the point where you're forced into a battle that has insane odds against you. I suppose I understand that the game is meant to have replay value and you can't do it all the first time but I was very angered that I was pushed into a corner and it was a corner that wasn't easy to pass. I've moved on from the game since then but once I find a day where I have some patience I'll go back and muscle my way through that part.

Certainly has set the bar high for Hentai games that actually have fun gameplay but its easy to forget what you're doing and get yourself stuck in a rough patch if you don't plan correctly.

same here, i stopped playing when i got to that point. i just dont have enough territories and commanders to defend myself. the only option left is to make a new game. guess i'll get around to it someday

My problem always was the fight with the dude Rance replaced as ruler who was possessed from demons and rance had to go all 'no you, you are the demons' to.

I get to where his muscle guy turns into the demon.

Then he starts 1hit killing everyone.

As for commanders, I just make sure to recruit commanders locally (IE: rance goes to girls schools, picks whoever he wants to fuck) as well as from captured provinces.

I can max out my commanders BEFORE reaching any bottleneck point that way.

That and I make sure to upgrade my territories to make more cash.

And use that cash to upgrade my commanders armies to be bigger (most never go over 1k of course, cost gets silly past that point)

The main issue is the lack of real control.

Rance 7 would have been so much better if you could, at certain points such as in between wars, just call everything quits for a while, and sit there and grow/repair/upgrade or just select the same action to rape a characther.

All in all, great game, but to Japanese RPGish, therefore way too linear.

Not a big fan of Japanese H-strategy games, so I'm waiting for the translation of Rance 6. :)

In regards to the muscle man, you need to have some decent commanders in decent levels. If you only have Rance and Sill that's decent, expect a beating.

As for commanders, I tend to recruit commanders that will be of use. Initially, the local commanders are nice but once you've start capturing decent areas, the local commanders are dead weight.

If it's too easy, try doing it on Insane difficulty. I've had a hard time trying not to be swamped by 3 angry regions.

Wow, this is an incredible strategy game... it puts a lot of "mainstream" games to shame for design and creativity! It also is very replayable, and has a lot to unlock. Really impressive.

Is there any serious attempt going on to translate the sequel, Rance Quest? The highest translation projects I saw were at 8%, and many hadn't been updated since 2011. I am wondering if it comes close to Sengoku anyhow :P

First, I've played Rance Quest and the Magnum expansion in Japanese, and I can honestly say I prefer Sengoku. RQ is what happens when you throw Dragon Quest's grind and Suikoden's loads and loads of characters in a blender. You aren't missing much.

Second, the translation of Quest is on hold. The person working on it has teamed up with another translator and is working on Rance 5D now. After 5D is complete, Rance 6 is going to be translated. Quest and the Magnum expansion are going to be worked on after 6.

Lastly, Rance 3 is being worked on by a third person. You can view the translation percentages here: https://rancetranslation.wordpress.com/

For more details, you'll need to go to 4chan and look for the alicesoft general threads in /vg/. The people translating the series post detailed updates there, usually every Saturday. The percentages on the blog come from the weekly posts.

WARNING if you want to follow the alicesoft general threads: don't bother until you've beaten Sengoku Rance once. It's full of unmarked spoilers for that game.

P.S: I wasn't able to read any Japanese when I played RQ, and I had only improved slightly when I played Magnum. The opinions in the first paragraph are based solely on gameplay, though I have read story spoilers since I finished it, and I'm still not impressed.

Rance Quest can't it be considered the 9th installment

If we're talking about plots of course

But if anything else, then Sengoku Rance is quite a good game. Also, if anyone wants to place similar English translated interactive visual novels, there's Daibanchou Big Bang Age made by the same company as Rance's and Kamidori by Eushully.
