[Small Guide] Better Skyrim Sound

If you play Skyrim with a dedicated surround system, you may have noticed that Skyrim maybe lacking in bass or more generally in terms of dynamics.

In my case I am using a 5.1 surround system and I was really annoyed that there were no epic-ness in terms of sound, even with AOS2, music overhauls and such.

I started looking around and found a tip about loudness. This helps and really adds in terms of immersion, so you can hear birds sing more clearly in a silent forrest etc.

However this did not solve my dynamics issue though. After shifting through nexus and finding nothing but the mods I already use I focused my attention on my sound card and after a few tries my Skyrim felt truely epic again:

My subwoofers cross-over frequency is set to 110 Hz, so created a new equalizer profile and increased the frequencies below 110 Hz, specifically I increased 31 Hz by +7 dB and 62 Hz by +5 dB.

And poof, my Skyrim sounds really epic!

Orchestral fight music is orchestral again and you can feel impacts now!

This maybe different for your PC and if you have another soundsystem or no dedicated soundcard and you may have to install additional software to get an equalizer for your windows, but it is worth it. This was bothering me for years, and it annoyed the hell out of me to manual tune up my sound-systems bass volume, which made it better but it was not as smooth an experience as what I had wished for. Using the equalizer however lets you tune the experience to your liking and your sound-system.

You may not have noticed in the past but it can be a huge difference and I did not find any such guide related to Skyrim, so I would like to share it!

As a last tip:

Be sure to increase the frequencies nearer to your cross-over less then the deeper ones, or else you will get strange dynamics, and sounds too loud.
