SirDuke Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 You guys over there in the U.S. do have the better engines. (Or at least the "more-fun-to-drive" ones) So what would you recommend as a good choice when matching these conditions: - a (used) car with a price max. about 13.000$ / 10.000€ <=== That´s all I can afford - a station wagon (or something that way) <=== I need that space for the sound installation - not too much more then 75.000 miles (100.000km) already done <=== Everything else is as bad as mine now - as much HP/kW as possible <=== Cause I want some "fun-to-drive" - and not older then max 10 years <=== Everything else is as bad as mine now
Codifer Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Good question, one I have been contemplating also. My criteria and are the same: utility (wagon), good performance and good reputation. I have perhaps half of your budget however. I have narrowed the scope by focusing on autos that have proven reliability and also ease of maintenance hence NO front wheel drive/transverse engines (timing belts are ticking bombs that can't be ignored). Then I think about what I would buy if I won the lotto and then track that model back to used examples that are in the price range. I have been considering an Audi A6 wagon. In silver grey. Cheers and good hunting
Guest Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 this might help ( depending on countries ) http://www.thedrive.com/sheetmetal/8427/10-best-used-wagons-for-enthusiasts-around-10000 but there over 10 years old......so don't forget to leave space for the amps, subs etc and a baby harness because no station wagon would be complete without one

So this is in some way answering my question. But to be honest, most of these cars are way more expensive, then given by the ranking. Likely most of these cars are far more expensive still. If I like to have the Passat W8, the Audi, the BMW or the Volvo below the mark of 10.000€, they have probably so much miles down, that it just makes no sense to buy. On the other hand, the Subaru 2.5 makes a rather good choice! And the 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS is quite the tip, I hoped to get! Unknown here in europe, affordable, and with some potential! I haven´t had a car like that on my radar! So many thanks for that! Please more of this good hunting hints! *** EDIT *** Yeah, what I liked to add is, that I don´t have any idea about the US car market. And I´m pretty sure that there are a lot of great cars beside the few ones known here in europe. All we see from the US is the charger, the mustang and the Ram... But how about the unknown, underestimated family station wagons? In some way, just like Chevrolet HHR...
