What if people like ourselves-- Reasonably good with modding pornography in games-- Made an actual sex sim?

Like, that way we don't have to buy or questionably obtain anything from anyone.

Open-Sourced and stuff.

 

We will be using unity for this project.

 

 

Here are the main features I'm thinking of;

ingame morph creation and usage with exporting built-in(Highly optional),

ingame shader/material changes based on sliders (somewhat similar to blender's material setup with different diffuse and specular options),

dynamic subdivision of models,

2D mode and 3D mode (As to allow an easy-to-pose superdeepthroat-esque mode that primarily uses textured planes) (Perhaps an orthographic camera),

Borderless windowed mode.

 

 

 

We're looking for:

A name!

XML coders

3D modelers

Riggers

UV Mappers/Texturers

(Always looking for) testers

I think it boils down to the fact that modding an existing game means you have access to all the hundreds or even thousands of man-hours that have already been spent developing the game engine, game assets, testing and compatability of a commercially released game. Getting all that for free, or for only a little work to figure out the modding methods, is vastly less work than making something from scratch. Even factoring in the advantages of making something totally new and the fact that the developers of adult games are by and large not as talented as other game devs, it just still cannot compete with the effort game development studios put into their games.

 

It's a classic TMWFTLB scenario.

I have to disagree. An open-sourced game has much more potential for development -- There's never actually been an open-sourced sex sim, either.

 

Customizing mods in bethsoft's games isn't all that user-friendly and 3dsomethingvilla is extremely buggy and laughable.

 

The bugs within the game would be ones people who enjoy it could fix and help with rather than just having to wait for the next release.

The fact that the game's modders wouldn't have to do any encoding or decoding would be one of its biggest strengths, and just that would make it way worth it.

Hmm, yes, perchance the endeavor is worth it for a sex sim, as the current market offerings are rather sub-par. For most any other variety of game, though, I cannot see coding from scratch rather than modding being worthwhile.

IMO you should answer some basic design questions (sp? mp? 2d or 3d? going for mainly written descriptions with some images to add flavor or a fully animated 3d game? and, most importantly, which of the many fetishes floating around in LL do you want to include? :)) and create a new thread that clearly states what you want to achieve (and that you like others to help) in the subject line.

 

Nevertheless, good luck with your venture. I for one wouldn't mind if you actually created something decent :).

The idea isn't to make a specific line of fetishes, actually. It's more to make it easy enough to add your own fetishes through a GUI.

This sounds like an interesting project.

Unity will bea good choice as it's genereally free to download.

 

All you really need to do is get the webpage setup. I would also recommend a version control system for distributing work copies. I'm partial to tortoise SVN.

Get that out there, then make the base project. then people can start dumping in assets.

 

Also, you're going to need more documentation to get started.

First, what license is this going to be under.

Look them up here: http://opensource.org/licenses/alphabetical

 

Second, we'll need content guidelines. All assets submitted must be the property of the person submitting it or they must have the authority to do so. Also, you'll need to post a policy banning underage models.

 

Third, make a more thorough gameplay description. Starting from the ground up gives you a lot of flexibility. You could probably make a hybrid of dating-sim, adventure game, super deepthroat and the many other flash games out there.

 

Fourth, define the setting. Since this is going to be a community project, you can probably have different 'zones' to encompass a wide variety of setting. Medival fantasy, modern-day, future sci-fi, dimension of the tentacle king, ect...

 

Also, multiplayer might be interesting. Keep the single-player intact, but allow people to bring in others. Maybe incorporate some IRC features. A full MMO might be too much of a hassle.

 

I'll see if I can whip up some formal docs for ya.

 

[Edit] almost forgot! If you want this to be open for international people to work on it, I'd suggest that the website be owned and hosted outside the US. Patriot Act and all. This wouldn't be illegal at all, but it might save some headaches.

What I'm thinking of doing is making it absolutely free. This means, there's no illegality whatsoever, no matter where we have it.

The game's hosting and possible master servers will be handled through donations and ad revenue. You miiight be right about hosting it outside of the US, though.

I do have ideas for a setting, and I have an idea for a storyline as well as the gameplay of the actual game. I have a few people working with me in unity (not actively, but I need more talent anyways.), and I think our base of operations should be in an irc channel on irc.nebtown.info.

#monstergirlmansion will be the channel. Join up and we'll talk about details!

By the way, multiplayer would be within private parties or have no master server. The policy on underaged models is, 'We are in no way responsible for the models our users use in their clients. We are responsible for the content that we use to create the game, and that is all.'

 

I'm not about to alienate someone based on a fetish they have that's only related to fiction. :V

I'm interested in doing some Dev work on the side of my main game project, but I just recently came up with a viral/transformation survival game that I'd like to prototype.

 

If I can't make something out of that tho, I may be available to help. Also unfortunately I'm only familiar with the Source SDK and Unreal's UDK not Unity...though I've heard it's a bit easier to learn than others. Not sure how true that is though lol

 

So like I said, if my earlier idea decides to go nowhere, then I'll chip in where I can.

@Akigawa: You may want to reconsider your choice of Unity if you cannot find a coder. While UDK/CryEngine3 may not as open as Unity' date=' they are more feature complete 'out of the box'.
