I can start a game with as many mods active as I choose and it runs fine, but as soon as I save and close the game, that save file becomes inaccessible. Regardless of what mod configuration I use, I will change absolutely nothing between saving the functional file and reopening it, but I get a CTD from the loadscreen, before the game itself fully loads. The papyrus logs are consistently indicating that USLEEP isn't active, which is not the case. I have read in various places that this error should not be an indicator of a problem, but the papyrus log ends there, as the game reaches this point and crashes. I am at a loss and would love a few pointers. I have read through all of the FAQs and the troubleshooting guide, and I have cleaned my master files with TES5edit. I have not attempted any cleaning of existing save files as I cannot even get a brand new file to consistently function. Those are definitely concerning looking messages. I actually don't know what zbfbondage shell or daymoyl are but I recently reinstalled Defeat entirely and I'm not sure how anything could be missing. Do you have any suggestions?
crplivion Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 if you uninstall a mod and try to load a game from when you had the mod,the game save will try to load that missing mod. some people use save cleaner when that happens to clean up mods that arnt there anymore in basic terms of explaining. if your wanting to do complete playthrough,you should pick mods and run them all the way.
Nazzzgul666 Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Papyrus logs aren't made to track CTDs, and rarely tell anything about them except "your save is screwed" and you should reload an older one or completly start from scratch. That said, i wouldn't mind errors in papyrus too much. It might just mean that a mod is checking for a soft dependency that isn't there and no harm done if it's missing - just that you can't use the features added by the mod you don't have, pretty much the obvious. crplivion is right that you shouldn't uninstall mods midgame, at least no scripted mods, armors shouldn't be a problem in general. It's not only that the save will try to load the mod - scripts are baked into your save, it's those scripts that are still kinda running but missing their mod telling them what to do. What might cause trouble additionally (and here armors count too), also changing your load order midgame can cause trouble, regardless if you add or remove a mod or even just switch their order. Some mods initialise things when the game is started with them for the first time and then depend on that very specific load order for working properly. Save game cleaners can help with the first point, not much with the second and they can also fuck stuff up on their own, so... if a save is important to you and there is o other way they are worth a try, but never a guarantee. That's why i usually just start a new game if may saves are broken. And with new game i really mean a new game. Don't load any save from somewhat early in game, click at new game and start there. There is a mod called Live another live on Nexus that avoids the intro and is not only recommended to save time, but also because the vanilla intro is quite a mess and often causes mods to freak out, i suggest using alternative starts. Live another live isn't the only one but the most popular, and here on LL are some addons for kind of sexualised starts.

I am well aware never to remove a mod from a file that's been using it, and I have a complex about never doing that, even when it is something that's probably harmless like armors. That's why those papyrus messages confused me so much, and while I still don't understand why they're there, I've played somewhat extensively today with even more mods and the game is perfectly stable thanks to Load Game CTD Fix.
