Mesh for Second Life

I am in SL for some years and now there is the possibility to upload your own mesh objects. The time has come to implant your custommade avatar. I am looking out for people who would enjoy to create a project like (suggestion) Skyrim in SL. I am not so gifted in using 3D programms so maybe anyone of you out there is interested. SL can be a nice place to roam if ou have some people with you. Think about to engage yourself and let me know. ;)

There are some major advantages to using "mesh" in SL and currently some major disadvantages. The main advantage is having the exact shape you desire and if the mesh is properly weighted to the SL skeleton' date=' a seamless deformation without twisting and pinching. The main disadvantage (to users, not to sellers hehe) is that each new body mesh will require new mesh clothing to go with it. It is very much the same as Morrowind/Oblivion/Fallout3-NV/Skyrim body and clothing systems. The upload fee for a mesh item is calculated differently than normal uploads as well... it's by land impact and not a flat 10L fee... basically they calculate the impact on download, physics and server resources. Whichever is the highest is the fee to upload the new mesh model. There's a 4th land impact value, display (cost for client to display) but it isn't counted for upload fee.

Here's a link to optimizing for Mesh.

First, thank you for your answer. I read a lot last time about mesh in SL and got dizzy about it. I agree with you in your statement about the advantage and disadvantage of using mesh. Like much in SL it is not for free but at the moment they are in a beta phase and the costs are reduced so you will have to pay about 30Linden$ for the next time.

The pity is, I cannot create such a skeleton what is the basic for an ava by myself. In my mind I had: someone could change some created for skyrim in that collada format that is required. I am an absolutely noob in this. IF that would work you could use all other things what are availeable for skyrim, like amor and clothing for your SL ava. Maybe I am too unknowing so if there is any professional let me know if there is a chance to do this. The payment would be the least trouble in my mind. I equipted my ava with a lot of clothes and attachments, pussy, animation override etc. short I`ve spent a lot of money in my activities there:rolleyes:

The NPC's need a better AI, imho. xD

SL is supposed to have support for normal and specular maps soon, as well.

Oh also, porting meshes and textures from skyrim, or any other game for that matter, will get you banned if you are reported, and the content removed. I'm not saying you won't get away with it if you're discreet, but you said yourself that you've spent a lot of money on your avatar there, so just making sure you're aware of their policies regarding intellectual property.

Can anyone link me to a tutorial about rigging clothes for SL in Blender or some other free program? All the videos I've ever seen are:

- How to build 3D models

- How to texture

- How to rig in Maya or other expensive thousand-dollar programs

Let's say I've created a tube, how do I rig this onto the SL avatar/skeleton?

If you're of the right mindset' date=' it's almost no different than real life. Except for the fact that the possibilities are truly almost limitless. (I mean seriously, not only do I have a human form, but faun, minotaur, alien, etc.) And if your the sort of person who likes to simply meet and talk to people, but hates bars and clubs, it's a godsend.

/me high fives. "I know!"

(how odd, it makes the "/me" command have red text.)

That's funny, cause I've seen stores that I could swear are selling things that are straight rips from games, like Arkham Asylum and Mass Effect.

And if they get AR'd or a DMCA request is filed, they'll be banned and have their content removed (and if you bought some of their content, you lose yours too).

Well I must say that I was not thinking of all the SL policies and I had not in mind to start an revolution in Sl with new avas but it is a goal for me to have a skyrim like ava and meet people with same interests there. Btw. in Sl are some skyrim influences already. And to all who doubt about the attraction of SL I can only say try and see and don´t speak about apples you never have tasted. I met a lot of people there in their avas from all over the world and the most were friendly and shared good times. I started with a human ava but hopped also along in my ringtail form and at least as cute elve. :)
