Stuck with a Brotherhood quest

Recommended Posts

Hi! I created this topic to ask for help, because I'm a little stuck with the Brotherhood of Steel .

This is what happens, I managed to enter the Institute, I already completed several quest, but I arrived at the quest of "Mass Fusion", the problem is that I had not completed the quest "Tour of Duty", however I have already obtained their quest "Spoil of war", so it didn't let me introduce myself with Ingram, because she gave me the aforementioned quest, "Spoil of War", so I used some codes to complete it the "Tour of Duty", however, I haven't received any other mission but "Spoil of War", and I can't talk with Teagan, nor with Quinlan, because both tell me to finish introducing myself to the others.

And! as you know, if I complete either of the two missions, "Mass Fusion" or "Spoil of War" I become an enemy of the other faction, but I still want to discover that Danse is a synth (yes, inadvertently I saw spoilers of that), but I guess I can't get it without completing the other quests, however, I wanted to betray the brotherhood after releasing Danse from them, but I want to be friend of the Institute, so I can't do the "Spoil of War" quest to continue.

What can I do?! ?

Both "Mass Fusion" and "Spoils of War" are decision point quests.  The game will tell you this prior to engaging in one or the other's activity - because you have to choose a side.  Choosing that side will make you an enemy of the other, and close off their quest lines.

Blind Betrayal is the Danse identity side quest for BoS  To set that quest up, the player must have spoken to Ingram or Sturges, gotten the network scanner, run the network scan on the Institute network and returned the data to Ingram.  Additionally, this quest comes up after Liberty Reprimed, if the first condition was met.  If the player is enemies with the BoS, this quest will not come up.

It is not possible to stay friendly (to knowledge) with both the Institute and BoS after Mass Fusion/Spoils of War.

Create a hard save, then do both, reverting to the save after completing one.

So, you mean that no matter what, the quest "Spoils of War" is before I get the quest where I discover that Danse is a synth? ?

How does this work? Wouldn't it be the same as not doing the quest?

Ok, I looked this up - I was mistaken (must have been how I was doing my playthrough).... Officially, the questline for BoS is:

Reveille/Fire Support (depends on conditions)

Call to Arms

Semper Invicta

Shadow of Steel

Tour of Duty

Show No Mercy

From Within

Outside the Wire

Liberty Reprimed

Blind Betrayal  <--- Danse identity quest

Tactical Thinking

Spoils of War <--- decision to support Brotherhood of Steel and make Institute an enemy

Vs the Institute line:

Synth Retention

The Battle for Bunker Hill <--- make the correct choice and dialogue here with Father

Mass Fusion <--- decision to support the Institute and make BoS an enemy

It is possible to do either quest line up to Spoils of War or Mass Fusion and ignore the other.  So you can friends with both, spying for both, whatever you like - but you WILL have to decide which to support one way or another.  It is optionally possible to ignore both and still complete the main story by supporting the Minutemen or Railroad - but following either of these two will make the Institute hostile and potentially Brotherhood, depending on choices.

Finally, it's possible to get "peace" between Minutemen, Brothehood, and Railroad - it's more complicated, but argueably a better outcome.  It seems like this is through a series of holes in the quest design, but it's valid - nonetheless.

It should be noted though, that if you save Danse and keep him around - then later betray the Brotherhood - Danse will attack you on sight.  Since he is protected, he cannot be killed, except by the player.  A bit of a hole in the game logic here - but there it is :)

but the problem here, is that now I have both quest, the BoS and Institute one, but I can't get the rest of the quest of the BoS just for this, there's a way to remove both quest or just the BoS one to keep with the quest line? Maybe with some console command? Dx

You cannot really remove a quest once it starts.  You can however start others with console.

To complete Tour of Duty and force all objectives complete, run the following in console:  (no parenthesis)

setstage 537fc 10        (stats quest if not started)

setstage 537fc 20        (Meet Proctor Teagan)

setstage 537fc 30        (Meet Proctor Quinlan)

setstage 537fc 40        (Meet Knight Captain Cade)

setstage 537fc 50        (Complete Quest)

Once you complete Tour of Duty, you should be able to start Show No Mercy by talking to Elder Maxson.  This is a quest to clean out Fort Strong and recover Fat Man shells.  If you have done this quest, skip this.  If not... talk to Maxson.  If talking to Maxson does not work:  setstage 537ff 10

Note you may have bugged things up a bit somehow.  Starting quests via console is not usually recommended.  However, in your case the NPCs involved may be in a loop where you can only get certain dialogues from them - related to Spoils of War.  LIke when you talk to Maxson, he may force greet you and ask why you are still on the Prydwyn, don't you have a mission to do?  etc.
