How to port scripts that were attached to a race in normal skyrim to SE?

I had a script that was attached to a magic effect, which was part of a constant-on spell, which then was added to races, like Breton, Nord.. so I could use it on the player and all npcs. Now whatever I tried, like making perks and stuff with combinations of this effect and spells and adding them to Player, I can't get it to fire up in SE.
