Question for a Noob

Does anyone know what's the difference between femalebody.nifs femalebody.tri?

I'm asking because I merged together a bunch of followers that have their own bodies and I'm wondering which of the two (or if I should use both) I should use to replace their original ones.

I usually just use the .nif ones, but I found out that the .tri's would be created/placed in my overwrite folder in MO whenever I create a new body in bodyslide. Would my follower merged mod be affected by it at all If i just left it there? (I doubt it would, but no harm in asking).

The .nif files are the actual meshes - so they should certainly be used, and you should see two of them for most(but not all) meshes for Skyrim - marked with a _0 and _1.

The .tri files are morphs - used to change the shape of something in-game. In the cases of the ones generated with meshes in Bodyslide, they are what allows using the UUNP or CBBE tab in RaceMenu to change the shape of your character's body in-game - and what allows this shape to be consistent between your character's naked body, and any worn armor or clothing that you've generated meshes for in Bodyslide.

Thank you for answering my question! And yes, I always used the .nifs to replace the original bodies, I was just wondering if I should put in the .tri in my follower's folders as well

Again, thank you!

Ah, I did forget to mention something. The .tri files are linked in the .nif files, meaning say for the default female body path, that is the file that would be used. So if you say copy those meshes to let followers use the same body, then you do not need to copy the .tri files as well, because they will still have that link to the default female ones, unless the filepath is changed in the .nifs themselves, with Nifskope - which is not really required.
