About This File

Home Computer Expanded
AphOS: a whole desktop behind "Use computer"

What it is
Clicking "Use computer" no longer gives you a list of links. It boots AphOS, a full-screen 1998-flavoured desktop run by Aphrodite herself: a wallpaper, icons, a Start menu, a taskbar with your money and the day, a browser with an address bar, history and bookmarks, and a hologram of Aphrodite in the corner who has an opinion about everything you open. Every program and website the base game and your other mods already put on the computer still works, inside the window. On top of that AphOS adds its own websites and programs, most of them built on the mods you already have installed.

Two files: Home Computer Expanded (the mod) and the optional Home Computer Expanded-Media (wallpapers: Summer City, the 18+ sets, the pill sets, the mod sets and community submissions). The mod works without the media pack; you just get the built-in wallpapers.

Requirements
X-Change Life 0.25.6 or newer. Nothing else is required. Every integration below switches itself on when that mod is present and stays out of the way when it is not.

The desktop

  • Two chrome styles: Retro bars (with scanlines) and Holographic glass, each with three app looks (Retro 1998, Retro Chrome, GeoCities; Terminal, Outrun, Holo) that restyle every site and program, ours and third-party.
  • Colour themes (Aphrodite, Nyx, Pelican, Nano, Bimbo, Foam) and a custom colour picker.
  • Wallpapers with a slideshow, a custom wallpaper from any file on your device, and the media pack's sets.
  • Aphrodite as an assistant: greeting at boot, remarks per app, per wallpaper, on wins and losses. Can be switched off. Boot and shutdown screens too.
  • A real browser: type in the address bar and matching sites appear, back and forward work, bookmarks for every site.
  • Display Properties for all of it, saved with the game, mirrored on the device.
  • Works on phones: the same layouts and looks, wrapped and scaled for a small screen, with touch controls (long press to flag in Minesweeper, tap-to-play cards).

Programs

  • Media Player: the porn you own from Serendipity, in a file browser with a proper player, styled per look.
  • AphTube: makeup tutorials, streams and shorts. Created by Chloeana for Morning Makeover and ported here with her blessing.
  • Eudora: mail. The Postmaster Mail client from DatDude's Loose Ends (DatDude69), given a 1998 mail window.
  • Aphrodite Calendar: rent Sunday, allowance, the loan, when your pill wears off, pregnancy, parcels, X-Change Battles dates.
  • Trophy Room: every achievement from every pack you have installed, grouped by pack, hidden ones kept hidden, plus your trading card binder by set.
  • Solitaire and Minesweeper. Aphrodite keeps your times.
  • Contacts, Cock Roulette, She-Q, NanoBots and everything else the base computer offers, all inside the window.

Websites

  • Summer City Pharmacy (pharmacy.sc): every pill shelf the game can see, delivered next morning by X-Press, with a 3D carton you can open, the trading card inside, and a written note for every side effect (about 55 with a full mod set) that opens to a full wiki article.
  • Bonwit Teller and Serendipity Comics online: the counters' own stock, porn disks in a jewel case, cards in a toploader.
  • Pelican Trust Online: pay rent and Alexia's allowance from your chair, manage the Compliance Loan, and see your Silent Partner positions.
  • Blockbuster Direct: every tape on the wall, rented by post, in a VHS clamshell you can open.
  • Summer City Gazette: a newspaper written from your save: the Foam, the office board, your pill, the loan, Battles, the shelter, the Farms, your achievements.
  • Summer City Wiki: the city, its places, its pills and its people, with an article for every side effect.
  • X-Change Intranet: once you are hired at X-Change: your record, the weekly board, the DynaPill demo calendar, the handbook.
  • X-Press Delivery: parcel tracking and the courier job.
  • X-Battles, Neon Desires, Scentsibility, Mind Games, Summer City Stereo, Summer City Farms, SC Animal Shelter, Keyholder: see the integrations.
  • Foam Market, Looksy, X-Fans, Backpage, Frontpage: the existing sites, skinned and bookmarked.

Mod integrations and their creators
Every one of these appears only when that mod is installed. Nothing here copies another mod's content; AphOS reads their own registries and calls their own passages, so their prices, stock and rules stay theirs.

  • Morning Makeover by Chloeana: AphTube is her creation, ported with consent. Its tutorials teach the base looks.
  • DatDude's Loose Ends by DatDude69: Postmaster Mail becomes Eudora.
  • X-Change Battles and BattlesCards by Dragon42/Shadowspawn: X-Battles.sc sells booster packs (a foil pouch you can turn), singles and starter decks, opened on delivery by the mod's own draw, and shows the rankings and the season. Battles dates are on the Calendar and in the Gazette's sport page.
  • Get Caged: Redux by DatDude69: Keyholder.sc: your lock, what the cage has taken, your lifetime record, a pledge Aphrodite holds you to, and the X-Cage pill by post.
  • Blue Pills! by DatDude69 and Iggy: the blue shelf in the Pharmacy, delivered into the mod's inventory.
  • U666 Drug Framework and the U666 drugs and pills by Usagi Triplesix: every store drug on the Pharmacy shelves, one section per category, stock drawn from the counter; the U666 pills merge into the X-Change shelf; their side effects have notes and wiki pages.
  • U666 Effects Core by usagitriplesix: its effects are on the side effect pages.
  • U666 Summer City Stereo by Usagi Triplesix: Summer City Stereo online: Camelot's rack by genre with the mod's own previews, the SC-30 from Radio Shack, the radio dial, a cassette case you can open.
  • DP Pills by DefectPetite: on the Pharmacy shelf.
  • DatDude's Oral Pill by DatDude69: on the Pharmacy shelf, and among the side effects.
  • Mystery Pill by Athena: on the Pharmacy shelf.
  • X-Change Goth by Athena: Nyx's counter as its own Pharmacy shelf.
  • Neon Desires by Athena: Candy's counter online, thirteen toys and the X-Change chokers as 3D models, every item read from the mod's own registry (a third-party registered toy appears too).
  • Scentsibility by Athena: the Fragrance Hall, the drugstore shelf and the thrift basket, bottles by concentration.
  • Mind Games Store by Athena / EdgeSkylark: games, the PC rack, the adult section and the joystick, cases and joystick in 3D.
  • X-Press Delivery by Athena: every shop on AphOS delivers through it, and xpress.sc tracks your parcels and your courier record.
  • Summer City Farms by Athena: the farm's site with your record, plus a wallpaper wall from the media pack.
  • X-Change Life Pets by Athena: the SC Animal Shelter's site: this week's intake, your animals, the rules.
  • Silent Partner by Athena: your positions on Pelican Trust's private placements page and in the Gazette. Buying and selling stays at the branch, by the mod's own rule.
  • X-Fans, Backpage and Frontpage by Athena: skinned as sites, in every look, with their own bookmarks.
  • Last Call by Athena and any other mod that puts a button on the base computer: it shows up as a program or a site automatically.
  • BLACKED by Chloeana, Pegged by Athena / ithrob, Cucked by Chloeana / Melodious Melia, Bad Habits by Athena / Melodious Melia, Bar Girls on X Change by Athena / datdude69, Paradise Mall Expanded, LESBIANED, Partners and every other pack with achievements or side effects: their achievements are in the Trophy Room and their side effects have notes and wiki pages.

The media pack (Home Computer Expanded-Media 1.0.0)
Wallpaper sets: Summer City; 18+ naked and sexy (four races, women, trans women and men); the pill sets (Breeder, Bimbo, Goth, Show-Off, Compliant); BLACKED (Chloeana's mod), LESBIANED (Athena), Cucked (Chloeana / Melodious Melia), X-Fans (Athena), Summer City Farms (Athena); DynaPill ads; and Community wallpapers sent in by creators, credited by name on every tile. First community set: Purple Lady AI.

Want yours in? Send them to me. A folder per creator, any size, 16:9 preferred.

For modders
AphOS has a small, documented contract, all in DESIGN.md in the mod folder: register a site or program from a passage tagged [hce_apps] (or HCE.register from JS), add a pharmacy shelf with [hce_pharmacy], a side effect note with [hce_pharmacy_notes], a wiki article with [hce_wiki], a Gazette story with [hce_gazette], a calendar entry with [hce_calendar], deliver your own goods through X-Press with [hce_deliver]. Any mod's existing computer button already appears without doing anything. The full guide is MODDERS-GUIDE.pdf, next to the mod.

Install
Put both .xcl files in your mods folder and load them with the Mod Loader. The media pack is optional. Existing saves are fine; the desktop rebuilds its registries when it opens.

What's New in Version 1.0.3

Released

HCE 1.0.3 Changelog

  • Eudora: the window X no longer deletes the selected mail. DatDude's Loose Ends 0.6.5 moved its mail toolbar into the title bar ahead of the close button, and AphOS was pressing the first control it found there, which on 0.6.5 is Delete. The X now only ever presses a control that reads as a close, and takes its own way out otherwise.
  • Eudora: the filters are back. Same cause: hiding the client's title bar hid the toolbar that had moved into it. Eudora now hides only the client's name, logo and close and keeps Delete, Mark Unread, Mark All Junk Read, Junk Mail, Priority Mail, Receipts and the sort order, on Loose Ends 0.6.4 and 0.6.5 alike.
  • Eudora: the X always closes. If the client's own close link has already been used or does nothing, the X leaves anyway.
  • Trophy Room: achievements you have unlocked now show as unlocked. The reader misread the profile store and counted nothing; it now reads it correctly and also honours the save's own unlock list. The Gazette's society page uses the same reader and was blank for the same reason.
  • The morning sidebar no longer appears inside the PC. Using the computer in the morning showed the clock and the Do chores / End morning buttons docked in the window; they stay on the home screen where they belong.
