Chapter 10-Pardon?

I know this doesn't have any screenshots, I'm still having issues with my game, thus can't do anything for my chapters. I apologise for that, but hopefully by the end of the week I can be ready to post at the usual pace again.

Start of Chapter 10

I was surprised when I heard Solomia didn't want to come to the royal gathering at Raven Castle, she was the one who normally went to those occasions not me. And her wish for absence worried me. Even my mother wouldn't go, though I doubt she would ever agree to go anywhere with me. So I was forced to traipse across the province of High Rock alone, in the cold. Half the time I was stuck in the blizzard that surrounded Raven Castle, but I arrived there. I forgot how much I hated that place. It was dark and dead. No living tree was in site and the trees that were there were blackened as if they were burnt, by something. I was in the forest surrounding the castle and I was nearing the gate and despite my best instincts I pressed forward. There were guards at every corner, so if I had to run or escape I'd have a tough time of it.

As I began to approach the central keep I saw the moon become trapped behind a huge tower that loomed over everything around. Owls whistled and hooted everywhere around muffling the sounds of the wind brushing through the mountainous basin. It was scary for me and I was a vampire. I dreaded to think how any human would feel coming down here. I swallowed my pride and made my way towards the bronze lined door. It opened miraculously as I approached and inside everyone stared daggers at me.

"Sorry for letting the breeze in." I apologised, though I had a huge smirk on my face that I suppose seemed stupid and silly.

"We've been waiting quite a while for you." The lady in the centre of the hall explained. She had long blonde hair and striking red eyes that stared deeply, yet curiously at me.

"Sorry who are you?" I asked my voice lightening as the door finally shut behind me.

"I am your queen. Maybe having you pardoned was a poor decision after all. Well I suppose there's no turning back now. Please take a seat and lets get this over with." She commanded as she pointed to a seat on the leftmost table. I was seated next to Prince Vlad. How ironic. A few hours passed, yet I stayed in a strangely solemn silence. i chose not to drink or revel. I waited, because if I was to have to take an oath, I wanted to be sober.

"Well finally, the pinnacle of this night. A pardon for our most rebellious countess. Come forward." The Queen ordered, I obliged, as I had no other choice. The room was filled with the stench of wine and now rotting blood.

"Your grace." I said clearly and respectfully. I didn't want to get on her bad side, I had heard her temper was worse than mine, and her eyes were telling me that perfectly.

"You have committed crimes against us, the royal family. But I am willing to pardon you. But in return, you will become one of my personal guards. Do you accept?" She asked. Cursing me to her personal guard. It was better than death I suppose.

"I accept your grace. I will be your guard for as long as your reign lasts." I accepted, though my voice was more a sorrowful sigh.

"And I accept you, Countess Shea. Your watch begins tomorrow. Now get out." She ordered, those words were sharp and prickly. I knew as long as she lived my life wouldn't be pleasant.

I bowed and made my way out of the room, I heard a pair of light feet follow me out. But my steps rang loudly and were heavy with anger. It was too late to turn back now. I stopped in the wide hall that housed a single table. I perched atop it and looked around. The dark and ugly decor was going to be home now. And these people would have to grow to be my friends. I eventually saw the feet who followed me.

It was Sofia, but she had changed. Her hair was let loose, not like the bun she used to wear. She wore a red and orange robe that barely covered her chest. Her face was brighter though, and much more colourful.

"I see you've found your way back then." She said as she sat on the seat below me.

"I did find my way, and it looks like I'll be stuck here for the rest of my days." I sighed as I stared around at the occasional gargoyle that occupied the alcoves.

"When was the last time we were together?" She asked with genuine curiosity.

"Three hundred years, at least. We need to catch up, don't we?" I admitted as I opened my legs a little wider. It was almost unnoticeable, but I'm sure it would infuriate Sofia.

"That we do, say shall we continue where we left off?" She asked as she dropped a subtle yet adorable wink at me.

"Yes we shall."

End of Chapter 10

Thank you for reading this far it means a lot, especially because of lack of posts. I know this was shorter, but writing seems more difficult when I don't have screenshots to frame the story off. I hope this wasn't too bad. Thank you again!
