Sloan's Story part 32 - The Shout Heard 'Round the World
Sloan had been lucky - had she stayed in Riften, she would have been baked to a crisp, as the rest of the population had, when the dragons attacked.
Centuries before, the dragons had ruled the world, and the smaller people had been nothing but their slaves. Now it appeared they were planning on re-creating their version of the good old days - dragons had swept out of the north, thousands of them at once, decimating everything and everyone in their path. The rumors and refugees from other parts of Skyrim had trickled in at first, and then it had become a torrent of people flooding the streets, looking for shelter in the last place they would be able to find it, which was when Sloan got the hell out and found shelter elsewhere.
It was a nice cave. Small, cozy, with small cracks in the ceiling that provided ventilation to keep the air clear and let smoke out without letting in water. Of all the places in which to wait out the end of the world, it was a pretty good choice.
The only downside was that it came with company.
“Are you certain they are gone?” Parman peeked over Sloan’s shoulder as she stood at the entrance to the cave and looked to the southeast, toward the smoke that rose from the direction of Shor’s Stone and the more distant but clear smoke that marked the spot that had once been Riften.
Sloan gestured at the dragon-free sky. “Do you see any?”
“No, but that doesn’t mean they’re not there.”
“Dragons are good at many things but stealth is not one of them. I assume they passed over the mountains to subjugate the rest of Tamriel.” She sighed as she turned back to the cave. “Still, you aren’t wrong to be nervous. I have to imagine they left some behind to root out survivors to kill or enslave. Assuming they’re going to do that again this time.”
She went inside and Parman followed, still casting his eyes back at the door as if expecting a dragon to pop through at any moment.
Of all the people she may have chosen to spend the apocalypse with, Parman was among the last. His constant fidgeting in the small space set her nerves on edge and his many clumsy attempts at seduction made her want to put a knife through his chest.
The worst part was, she probably would end up sleeping with him at some point, unless better options miraculously appeared. She was still young and, providing she could avoid the ongoing purge, she had a lot of years left; eventually even someone as aggravating as Parman was bound to look...well, not attractive. Or pleasant.
Okay, he had a cock and eventually she would probably want one inside her.
She sighed. The old joke about “if we were the last people on Tamriel” had become all too real.
“Are you sure you’re not the demon I summoned all those years ago? She never did return. Or kill my enemies. I suppose the dragons took care of that, though! Haha! A silver lining. Still, you do look remarkably like…”
“Shh.” Sloan held up a hand, her head cocked as she listened. She could swear she had heard a distance voice shout some word, but…
Wind erupted around them, out of nowhere and seemingly not bothering to acknowledge the stone walls of the mountain they were hiding beneath. Sloan tried to brace herself but the wind had the strength of a tornado and she found herself flying through the air. She expected to hit the wall of the cave but instead, she felt a moment of disorientation and then everything went dark.
