Maximo Scarpetti
Date of Birth: 1921
Status: Alive
Traits: Loyal, Anxious, Acting Don
Vito’s loyal solider and brother in arms has received a stealthy promotion as the Don has entrusted Max to run the family in his absence. Max agrees even though he may be apprehensive to Vito’s logic behind who orchestrated the hit on the Scaletta Estate.
Against Vito’s wishes (although not directly a fault of Max’s), his wife, Rosa, has become involved in the investigation to unveil the traitor within the family. In addition to his duties as acting don, Max must now smoke out the rat while keeping Rosa and her children at an arm's length of the organization’s business affairs.
Rosa Scaletta née Trapani
Date of Birth: 1925
Status: Alive
Spouse: Vito Scaletta
Traits: Loyal, Alluring, Family-Oriented, Nurturing, Dependable, Uneasy, Galvanized
First Entry
The shapely and enticing Rosa has risen from destitute refugee to one of the wealthiest individuals in America, tending to her husband every step of the way. Her commitment to Vito and her family remains unfazed as the former enhances his power in Del Sol. It helps that she hails from Sicilian lineage which has prepared her to be the rock of her family in any situation. She is totally aware of her husband’s business, yet knows not to get heavily involved. Instead she cares for her children and acts as the main pillar for her husband to lean on when he comes home.
In spite of her loyalty, Rosa’s concern lies in the security of her family’s future. As she and her family get older, will this lifestyle be sustainable? Given her background, she is just as much bound to the vows of the “Family” as actual members of her husband’s organization. Is her blind trust admirable? Or is it foolish?
Update
Rather than coiling away in fear or disgust, Rosa is as incensed as her husband regarding the attempt on their lives and has interjected herself in an investigation to unearth the family’s traitor. On one hand, she ought to think about the safety of herself and her children, On the other hand, you can say that she is doing just that by being proactive in discovering the traitor. Regardless, being surrounded by mafiosi is vastly different from exposing one.
Date of Birth: 1900
Status: Alive
Traits: Corrupt, Abusive, Arrogant, Wealthy, Uneasy
First Entry
Grandfather of the young Simis and future great-grandfather of Bella and Michael, Milton Bachelor represents the people of Oasis Springs. An establishment politician, Milton is just as nefarious as the drug traffickers he and his constituents oppose, though he would never admit it. He was targeted by the Scaletta family as their political contact through whom they can make inroads in Del Sol given the Senator’s business acumen and connections. After some staunch negotiations, (simoleons were paid), Milton has continued his tenuous partnership with Vito while maintaining public appearances. He is not exempt from greed, however, as his avariciousness stands to serve as a thorn in Vito’s side.
Update
After a standoffish conversation with Vito in which he insulted Vito’s family, it would appear that Milton has found himself in the pocket of the Scaletta Family. While frequenting the Love Ranch located on the outskirts of Oasis Springs, Milton woke up to the bloodied corpse of his hooker, Gina. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for the senator, the Love Ranch is run by Joe, who was able to contact Bert Alto.
In exchange for their aid, Milton was asked to telephone his office to inform them he would be staying at the Scaletta Estate in the Pinnacles. How he will repay the favor remains to be seen.
Joe Barbaro
Date of Birth: 1920
Status: Alive
Traits: Captain, Player, Gregarious, Unsettled, Gaudy
First Entry
Joe has been living comfortably as a captain in the Scaletta family. It would seem that Joe’s violent and verbose temperament is tailor made for a life of crime and ill-gotten gains. Money, power, women - he has it all. However, despite advancements in his career, Joe has slowly begun to feel as though his voice is being minimized as the organization expands. Surely, he is just imagining things? Maybe he is better off indulging in his debaucherous impulses and not over-thinking.
Update
After being overlooked in favor of Max as acting head of the family, we learn that Joe has been in contact with Fernando De Leon, an underling of Martin Madrazo. For how long? No one knows. However, it is clear that his connection to the cartel has existed for quite some time. To what extent has he informed on the family’s operations? Is his regretful dialogue at the start of chapter 4 indicative of a redemption arc?
Vincenzo Grosso
Date of Birth: 1911
Status: Alive
Traits: Disgruntled Disillusioned, Abrasive, Hot-headed, Captain
First Entry
A remnant of the old guard in Willow Creek, Vincenzo was placed in charge of Vito’s operations in Willow Creek, namely gambling and prostitution. He also oversees the family’s partnership with the Simkuza back east, ensuring that drug shipments reach their proper destination.
After negotiations between Vincenzo’s crew and Kazuki Kasen’s crew deteriorated, Vincenzo has refused to relinquish two rackets (operations) to Kauzki’s control. He feels that such a move would strengthen Chairman Po, who has offered his protection to Kazuki. Much to the dismay of his don, Vincenzo’s defiant attitude stands to disrupt current business dealings between Vito and the Simkuza Chairman, who have since patched up their relationship.
Update
After acquiescing to his boss’ demands, Vincenzo was arrested by officers who conveniently raided the meetup with the Simkuza. Foul play? Vito’s chief street boss back in Willow Creek has now been removed from the operations and is now in the hands of the FIB. It’s unlikely that the temperamental capo will be enthused given his reluctance to do business with Kazuki Kazen, who somehow escaped unscathed.
Martin Madrazo
Born: 1896
Status: Alive
Traits: Cartel leader, Insidious, Manipulative, Domineering
The long-time leader of the Strangerville Cartel has struck a partnership with the Scaletta Family culminating in a massive business venture into the unsettled territory of San Sequoia. A rigid and prideful man, Martin possesses the charisma to allay the concerns of an unseasoned businessman while allowing his vicious reputation to precede him.
Martin has made it apparent that he views Vito more as his protégée as opposed to a partner. His openness displayed at the end of chapter 5 could be a sign of trust in a prosperous future with Vito’s family. But then you have the morbid comparisons embedded within his anecdote. Martin’s true intentions have yet to be revealed; although, I’m sure that is how he wants it to be.
Uncle Po
Date of birth: 1884
Status: Declining health
Traits: Simkuza Chairman, Traditional, Methodical, Shrewd, Stoic
The seemingly immortal chairman of the Simkuza has experienced a sharp decline in health in recent years - or so he claims. As such, he has bequeathed numerous properties to the other outfits almost as if he was executing a will. Po’s political influence played a vital role in securing a governmental partnership between San Sequoia and the underlying outfits of the Commission.
Like Martin, Uncle Po has treated Vito with a fatherly hand, admitting that Vito is “young and full of life” while the former is nearing the end of his. Perhaps their previous conflict and his rapidly declining health has offered to the sagacious leader that business is more important than egotism. Surely, this is a valid possibility rather than a mirage?
Fernando De Leon
Date of Birth: 1918
Status: Alive
Traits: Underhanded, Smug, Womanizer, Ruthless
A young and upcoming narco, drug trafficking runs in Fernando’s blood as he plyed his trade under his father’s tutelage. His combination of ruthless precision and financial savy attracted the attention of Martin Madrazo under whom he now works. Fernando now controls a large portion of Strangerville’s drug trade as earnings comprise the majority of the region’s income.
In Chapter 4, we hear Fernando phone Joe Barbaro’s home seeking information. Clearly, he has infiltrated Vito’s organization. But just how much operational knowledge has he gained from the bamboozled capo?
Eva Bautista
Date of Birth: 1924
Status: Alive
Traits: Seductive, Femme Fatale, Ambitious, Materialistic
As an associate of the Strangerville Cartel, Eva has quietly made a name for herself working for Fernando De Leon. While she is a capable narco, her true talent lies in her ability to know when to use her physical gifts to her advantage. Just ask her boss, Fernando. Eva is more than a pretty face with curves.
