Gambling? No more!

I was pretty surprised when I heard from Silvano that Malicija invited our worker and his fat girlfriend over to their place wanting to know them better. She learned the truth about what I told her earlier: love has many faces and is not submitted to our definitions of it. Silvano told us that she dropped prejudices about fat people. Besides that, he also told us that she is turning into a neat person, cleaning their apartment and keeping it neat. She still needs to learn a lot, but I am glad she is progressing.

My dad got sick (the flu) and he and my mom stayed home. She is nursing him. Our children miss them very much and they cry whenever they talk to them over dad Boss’s or mom Zdenka’s phone since they are babysitting them now. My mom told me that my dad held his tears when talking to them, but he blasted in crying after it. That is strange and uncommon for him. It can mean only one thing: he loves them very much and he misses them too. He was never attached to anyone as he is attached to them, except for my Prince’s uncle. We miss them too especially during our family morning coffee time.

We are ready for the 8th of March, International women’s day. We set the budget for that event and organized a small snack party with proper gifts for our female workers. Besides that, every female worker and guest will get chocolate candy, a flower, and a 50% of discount in our restaurant, bar, gym, and other facilities.

I do not know if you remember the worker with a gambling problem I told you about a while ago whom we helped to cover his gambling debts asking him to promise he will not gamble anymore since he is the only one who has a job in his family. Well, he didn’t gamble for some time, until recently. He lost a certain amount of money and he asked us for help so he can pay the bills. My Prince agreed to help him since he got the money for such situations from Mister “XXX”, but he had some conditions. He invited him to my office and confronted him saying:

- You know how much I hate people who are destroying their families by spending hard-earned money on drinking, gambling, drugs, and similar shit …. Listen to me very carefully now: I will help you cover your debt if you register at a rehabilitation center today and start working on your addiction! You will gamble no more! If you reject my proposal and you spend a single cent on gambling, I swear, I will hurt you very badly and put you in hospital for a long time for I will not let you destroy the lives of your family who has an idiot for a husband and a father! If you want to take a walk on that road, be my guest, but I promise you a lot of longtime pain … As for your family, do not worry, unlike you, we will take a care of them until they financially recover.

The man knew my Prince was serious and that he always keeps his promise. He started to sweat and stutter promising he’ll not gamble ever again. So, we, e.b. agreed to help his family if he refuses to go under the rehab program. He signed an internal written agreement that he will attend a rehabilitation center and stop gambling. He’ll also accept all consequences if he breaks it. After that, he called the rehab center and arranged the first meeting. We kept our part of the deal. We covered his debt. I am deeply convinced he will keep his part of the agreement for he knows my Prince was very serious about all he said. Now, maybe some of you might say my Prince had no right to interfere in his private life. Wrong. The guy asked us for help. Since we treat our workers as our family, rough methods are necessary sometimes.

It is great to hear that you are very generous with your money, esp to ensure a family is able to live with some standard of life.

Money is like butter, not really good for you in lumps but works really well when you spread it all over.

The story does remind me a little bit of the Sopranos though.   Did your Prince send an associate to make sure the guy goes to rehab and if he skips out, then the gambler gets a small lead high speed injection rehab to the brain? ;)

:classic_laugh: I watched Sopranos a long time ago. My Prince didn't. As for the rehab center, Lidija is in charge of that. They will contact her if he comes to sessions or not. His wife will be in contact with my Prince about his behavior at home. So, all is covered. :classic_biggrin:

> As for similarities with Sopranos, it is complete coincidence. I am sure that many other people in the world had similar experience.

Your Prince is the da fucking MAN, Eva. Perhaps you should consider calling him "King" as it seems more appropriate. ;)

I know how hard it can be to break free from gambling addiction as I was addicted to gambling myself when I was young. I was stupid and naive until I realized it couldn't go on like this. Although I didn't have my own family, in the end it was almost the same as with the person, since I could hardly make ends meet and got more and more into debt. But I'm glad that I got away from it in the end and have learned to deal with little money.

It's like an alcoholic who is constantly being seduced, because in the 90s you could see slot machines on every corner almost everywhere, these machines were in almost every restaurant or pub. I wish the person that this can jump over their own shadow and can free themselves from it.

You just have to allow it and resist these temptations by saying - No! Don't destroy your own Future.

A very big respect to your prince, that he gets involved. Not many would be so helpful.

> I can understand an addiction since I am behavioral addict - sex addict. My Prince wouldn't be so rough with him, but he talked to him earlier in very friendly tone warning him about the consequences of his gambling and rescuing him from being heavily beaten by racketeers from whom he borrowed the money. Since this guy seriously jeopardized his family economy and finances almost letting them be without heat, electricity, water and food since he didn't pay the bills for some time, my Prince felt he should "shake" him a little bit harder. You see, he wouldn't care so much about him who choose to slave his addiction, but he felt compassion for his wife and two children who are innocent victims in this drama. The family is most sacred thing for my Prince and he will lay his life to protect it - us.

That's understandable, a reputation is quickly ruined.

But it's a nice gesture, it always hasn't to be something extravagant.

:classic_dry: Bad husbands. They should divorce from such narrow-minded bores.

Everyone knows that there is no such thing as a free lunch. He is lucky he did not have to deal with the gangster.

From them he would get no mercy.

but Eva this is his second strike, and I know what addicts are like, and I know that it takes tough love to keep a family together. So, no, if anything Prince is too lenient.

Eva in truth people are much more willing to offend someone who wishes to be loved than someone who wishes to be feared.

Well said. Tough love is best when it comes to addicts. Reminds me of so many ppl that seem so sincere in their promises of reform, only for you to find out later that they're right back doing the same shit. "L'enfer est plein de bonnes volontés ou désirs."

> My Prince is aware of biblical saying "As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly" (proverbs 26:11) and that great percentage of addicts returns to drug using. But he still wants to help because of this man's family. The gambler knows he has no third chance with my Prince. So, he better not screw up.
