Stormrend - Prophet fight

Wasn't going to do anymore for this but I'm pretty proud of this fight scene (I've not actually gotten to this point within the story yet but I wanted to get it set down before I forgot about it.) So a bit of background that isn't in the settings entry for this sub category; Prophets are essentially the Gods' angels and are some of the deadliest beings in the setting, capable of killing immortals and keeping them killed usually the only things that can fight a Prophet are other Prophets or people wielding weapons called godslayers (which Zack, the main character, does have) but it's a difficult and gruelling fight. Anyway the scene is in the spoiler below, it's a page and a half (or so) and over 1000 words just for the one scene it's just slightly shorter than the fortress assault earlier on in the story but this is one small fight as opposed to an assault on a fortress. Anyway I hope you enjoy, any critique is more than welcome.

Spoiler

Zack pulls up to what would be a nondescript building if it didn't have two guards posted outside. The guards are doing their best to try and appear as if they're not guarding anything but to Zack's experienced eyes they're clearly suspicious, additionally the intel he gets from Crow is very rarely wrong and in regards to this matter it would be near flawless as Crow can't afford to have a rogue Prophet of the Moon Goddess running around.

Making sure his bike was secured and out of the way Zack then makes his way to where the guards are lounging, unholstering his pistol he shoots both guards killing them with two shots apiece. He returns his pistol to the holster and calls upon his wind magic sending a hammer blow of wind to the doors smashing them off their hinges allowing Zack to walk through the debris. As he enters the building Zack starts pulling both fire and wind together in order to form it into lightning magic (mages all have their own specialities when it comes to magic, most being specialised in a single element. Zack's speciality however was in lightning magic) and starts firing it at the guards inside the building that weren't taken out by the assault from the wind. As Zack strides into the midst of the guards, lightning arcing from him he begins carving into them with Stormrend.

As he fights Stormrend shifts from a bastard sword to a kriegsmesser in order to better deal with the unarmoured foes he was currently fighting. Zack fights his way through the guards, cleaving limbs and heads from bodies and opening massive, deep cuts in those that don't get dismembered or decapitated arcs of crimson blood spraying all around him. All the while he has taken control of the bio-electric impulses within his own body, allowing his neurons to fire faster and more effectively increasing his speed and reflexes even more than they already where thanks to the mana boosting his physical attributes. After carving through a small army of guards Stormrend shifts in his hands again, becoming a Altairan claymore (the preferred weapon of the Altairan highlanders) to respond to the now armoured guards that had poured into the room. The sheer weight of the claymore combined with Zack's monstrous strength and speed results in more blood arcing from his blade as well as shattered shards of bone.

Eventually one of Zack's blows gets parried, using the momentum from the parried blow Zack puts some distance between himself and this new foe which turns out to be the Prophet. Grinning slightly Zack pulls out his pistol and unloads all twelve shots at the Prophet, his grin fades however when the bolts of mana dissipate in front of the Prophet and before he can react the Prophet is on top of him again. Fumbling to holster his pistol and fend off the Prophet at the same time Zack almost takes a blow to his head, however he aims a kick at the Prophet's stomach putting some distance between it and himself allowing him to get his pistol holstered as well as pull on his trump card.

Patrick always described the drawing in of prana as a euphoric experience, as if everything feels, looks, smells and sounds better however to Zack it was accompanied with a sense of dismay as if he could feel his life trickling away. Every second he spends drawing on the prana another second of his mortal life (the return of which is the only thing keeping him doing the Gods' bidding) is stripped away. The increased strength and speed then hit him, but even that wasn't enough to deal with a Prophet but it wasn't the reason he had decided to draw on the Prana instead it was the secondary effect that all immortals gained from this ability that he was utilising. Eye's glowing with an unnatural blue light Zack launches himself at the Prophet with a snarl on his face, the precognition he had been gifted allowing him to see several seconds ahead, enough to even the playing field between himself and the Prophet.

Stormrend begins dancing in intricate patterns as Zack brings it into positions to block the Prophet's own blade before it gets there. Zack brings all of his Blessed talent and combat experience to bear in this fight trying to end it as quickly as possible, his sword dancing out with sparks of lightning arcing off it, ineffective against the Prophet but enough to keep any guards that might try and join in at arm's length, and his stances fluidly changing from one to the next making this fight between two deadly combatants look like an elegant dance.

Eventually Zack sees an opening in the Prophets defence just as Stormrend switches from claymore to katana and then to a longsword, Zack flips the weapon to hold it by the blade and hammers the sword into the Prophet's now unprotected side, the quillions of the crossguard shifting to become deadly spikes. The weapon hits the Prophet with a meaty crunch as it smashes into its ribcage, Zack then hammers a kick into the Prophet's knee forcing it to its knees and allowing him to free his weapon with a savage twist as it falls. Stormrend shifts again becoming a mighty executioner sword which Zack brings slamming down on the Prophet's now exposed neck, severing its head with yet another crunching blow with yet another thought Zack causes Stormrend to shift back into a bastard sword with which he stabs the Prophet's heart before bring his boot down on its head, crushing it. He was taking no chances on the stories of a Prophet's incredible regenerative possibly being true. After finishing his grizzly work he looks up and notices there are still guard's in the room, taking out his pistol again he begins firing, with twelve shots twelve of the remaining guards fall down dead from the precision shots from the firearm aided by his precognition. Once the few remaining guards had fled Zack stops drawing on prana, clutching his head and collapsing to one knee as he is gripped with a splitting migraine an after effect of utilising his precognition.
