Visibility does a very simple thing: adds a detect life and dead effect to DD blindfolds.

Update takeaway: Sliders added to MCM to control range. Should work, please test and report.

This version comes with all of the following features:

  • Detect Life (modified to include Daedra and Automatons) and Dead Effects
  • An MCM to include toggles for both of those effects
  • MCM to control range of effects
  • A very very lackluster release post
  • A disappointing lack of screenshots

Beta Disclaimer:
This version may also have some bugs, and may not apply properly to blindfolds outside of the original DD. If you notice any odd behavior (Effect not working, weird ranges, certain things not lighting up, effect lingering after blindfold unequipped, or ending while the blindfold is still on, and these are just guesses off the top of my head the CK probably has something dumber tucked away for me/you) please report it quickly in this thread including useful info (meaning which blindfold you were wearing, what the problem is, and nothing else unless asked. Load orders and Papyrus logs probably won't be all that helpful here).

What does the future hold for Visibility?

  • Bugfixes probably
  • A separate Detection effect for Daedra and Automaton
  • Probably anything and everything you guys suggest in this thread.
  • A less lackluster release post
  • Screenshots (you can help by uploading them in the thread for me to steal use)

ok got the mod to try it out and ran into a problem

no mcm showed up at all

tried - waiting (did not work)

tried - save and reload fresh made save (did not work)

tried - open and closed MCM menu (did not work)

tried - used "setstage ski_configmanagerinstance 1" (no mcm, notice of 70 mcm's registered but only 69 showing)

tried - removed 2 mods with working mcm's then using "setstage ski_configmanagerinstance 1" (no mcm, notice of 68 mcm's registered but only 67 showing)

after that I did try 3 blindfolds (red blindfold, black ebonite blindfold, and white custom ebonite blindfold all added by AIM from DDX) and did not see any new effects at all,

but am not sure if mod was even working without the mcm showing up (and no new effects showing in the active effects magic tab)

any other ideas on how to make sure the mods is actually working (so I can see if the effects show up)?

Well I actually just realized I forgot something on the MCM to make it show up (oops) so I can at least fix that. I'll have everything working for sure tomorrow. But expect a hotfix.... now.

Edit: Wait no that doesn't seem to have fixed anything for some reason, now it won't even register... Wait a few more minutes for 1.0.2 to at least fix the freaking MCM.

Okay so I haven't released a new update, got the MCM working but the effects won't work (It all worked fine before I added a way to turn them on and off so obviously something with the conditions is not working) so instead of pushing out a half functioning version I'm going to take a few more hours and fix this. So expect 1.1 (a working version) tomorrow morning (~12 hours from now)

taken on a bright cloudless day at 12:32 (just after noon) in Whiterun

so far everything is working correctly (in my 30 second test run)

picture 1 is without any blindfold on (1st person view mode)

picture 2 is with a blindfold on (1st person view mode) edit - the fog setting in DDI is at 80%

picture 3 is with a blindfold on (3rd person view mode)

all 3 pictures taken within a total of 30 seconds

Tried this, was pretty handy, but glitched.

Glitch happened while I was standing in Captured Dreams shop; for whatever reason, people close to PC got the shiny effect on them (maybe more then one at a time). Would not go away. I reloaded, but it happened again. I did not have blindfold on.

I installed a bunch of new mods from LL to try so it may have been fault of something else, not sure. Uninstalling Visibility did fix it though.

Anyway, hope you get this working, it's a great idea imho.

That's... interesting. I'll look into it, the effect should be attached to the Blindfold enchantment and dispel automatically when it's unequipped.

Just a heads up: I finally have time to work on this again tonight so I'll be releasing a quick update that will, or at least should, fix this. I'm not entirely sure what would be causing it but I've got an idea on how to stop it. Or two if the first one doesn't work.

Hey, super sorry that update took almost 2 months, it wasn't a whole lot of work, just not a whole lot of time to work on it. Should work with no issues (getting left after devices are removed) now, at least it did in my tests.

Anyone got any features/changes/tricks you'd like to see implemented?

For some reason only the people that are close to me get the effect, and it doesnt seem to update afterwards.

If I walk away or enter a building, there is no effect on the people there (even with max range)...

Has anyone experienced this issue?

Anyone still using this? It's a good idea, but I think it'd work a lot better if the detection spells worked as a kind of "ping" mechanism. So, you hit a key and it casts the spell. And for that moment in time, you get to see/hear what's about you.

I suggest it this way, because I've tested it, and it seems that if you have the effect active, and a new target comes within range, they're not given the spell. They only get the spell cast on them if you go into the mcm and change the distance or something and then come back out. The detection spell will be recast, and they'll then show up.

So, right now, it doesn't really work so well in practice. It'd work better if it was a key-press system where the user has active control over when the spell activates. You run, run, run, hit the key to check what's around. And then run on. There's  a few other improvements that could be implemented too, like taking the detection spells off when looking in third-person. And reapplying it again as soon as they go back into first again.

I might attempt to put these things into the mod, as a mod. But, that's only when I have time to look at it. But, I've made a note of these ideas.
