What is the best way to start a fresh clean game to begin a devious playthrough?

This feels like a stupid question but what would be the best way to get a reliable low bug probability start? I am about to try disabling most mods and then activate them after entering the cave in alternate start. I have been having a lot of issues with all my mods and I am curious if maybe this will help. I keep finding conflicting information and any input from someone who is active in this community will receive 15 internets.
