How to set up 3ds max (or blender) for work on HDT-PE hair (REQUEST)

Hi there,

After the past few days of googling and research, I have found MANY guides on how to install HDT physics to Skyrim. I have found a number of tutorials for using Outfit Studio to set up Body Slide & physics-enabled armors. This is of course, not what I'm searching for. (thanks, Google!) BUT, I even found a few video tutorials on how to make HDT-PE hair in 3ds max! Hey, that's progress!

But I have still yet to find a guide on how to set up 3ds max or other modeling software for use with HDT-PE, specifically with regard to creating, rigging, and scripting new HDT-PE hair models.

I know there's a plugin out there, for example, that imports skyrim meshes and the skelleton of your choice into 3ds max. Great! Where is it, where can I download it, what versions of 3ds max does it work on, and are there any additional steps to install?

I also know that there's a plugin to generate the correct scripts? meta-data? ...something... based on the names of the bones you add to your hair mesh. Awesome! ...Where is it, where can I download it, what versions of 3ds max does it work on, and are there any additional steps to install?

If anyone could just point me in the direction of an actual setup guide for hdt-pe in 3ds max, I would be super greatful, and I promise I will do my level best to make some cool content for others to enjoy.

Thanks, and have a lovely day.

Not going to give you a tutorial, just point you in the right direciton:

Look for xp32's tutorials on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuiUEvwf6Sg

He's long winded but will give you great insight on what's going on in the 3ds scripts.

Then look up havok autotools here on LL, read the description and watch that video, this will cut your work time in half, at least.

That'll get you setup for PE, assuming you already know how to use 3dsmax and have havok (I recommend havok 2013)

It's not too bad once you figure it out. The problem is decent tutorials are hard to come by.

PM me if you have any questions.

The rest is trial and error.

Thank you!

hdt autopilot

JFF (Just for Fun) Havok xml editor

^^ those are the main things for 32bit skyrim

Just so you know though, you may consider investing time into smp if you want to do SSE. HDT released SMP for SSE this last December, and he made it sound fairly certain PE is nowhere in the near future for SSE.

For PE

Get 3ds 2012

Get havok content Tools x86 for 3ds max 2012

Get hdt Autopilot script from loverslab

Get nif importer/exporter for 3ds

Get xpmse rig map from offical dl site

Get nifskope

Import your Skeleton, Import mesh, add bones, create capsules by Script, weightpaint either in 3ds or os, export mesh+xml, launch nifskope and add extradata block ->profit.

Check canderes tutorials on YouTube, he left nothing out.

For SMP

Get blender 2.49

Get script from loverslab from hdt smp demo files

Get notepad++

Create your desired bones, export stuff, make entry in the defaultbbps.xml ->profit

Great workflow video here on loverslab but voice is in Chinese. Doesn't matter, shows the process very clear.
