Jackbonus Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Hello there fellas! After a few good days of trial and error I have come to the conclusion that I am not really getting anywhere with this.I can get Sexlab, Skyui and a few other mods to work but as soon as I build onto those my game either stops working or is all messed up. I think my general issue is that I don't know anything about load orders, and the LOOT tool has not helped me at all (as far as I know of). I find it to be a big issue, that on all the installation guides people assume that load order and overwriting of files? is something that is common sense. For me it is not, and I don't have a clue about it. At all.A second problem or uncertainty that I encounter with alot of the guides is that it is not made clear enough if you should ONLY open the mod through Organizer/NMM, or if you should also put some of the files into your data folder or whatever other steps might be needed. I've been left in doubt a couple of times. And lastly, which was what made me give up and make this post, is that after I reinstalled skyrim (To start all over with the mods) I found that all the mods was located in the data folder of my brand new installation + download. How is that even possible? And on top of that I am not able to start the game (it crashes on first load screen). And this is after reinstalling and downloading. So what I have thought about, and if the idea is out of the question or against the rules of the forum please let me know, is to pay someone an amount of $ (via bitcoin!) to be my personal mentor and guide while I am trying to make these things to work. Communication via skype of something like that. What do you think? And ofcourse whoever would be up for the task needs to be confident in their modding skills! Regards //jackbonus
allsunday Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I'd be glad to help! I'm well aware of the curse of knowledge trope in which everyone, especially tech savvy guys like myself, are so familiar with what we know that we can't possibly fathom how anybody could NOT know these things. It's what causes people to write instructions that generalize so much that it can be almost impossible to understand unless you already know what you're doing... which would almost defeat the purpose of writing those instructions in the first place because why write instructions for people who already know what they're doing? Anyway, I don't have anything planned today except take a beauty nap so let me know the best time for you. There's always the STEP guide which is a little out of date but still a somewhat qualified guideline. http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.9.2 However, if you feel the tutorial looks daunting, PM me your contact details if you'd prefer my personal help.
Sarge Misfit Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 You'll find that you're going to get a lot of help. You've been rather light on info about what method you've used to install your mods, what particular errors are happening and what your load order actually is. You said you've used LOOT, and that is the go-to tool for sorting your mods and it will highlight mods that are missing masters (red messages) and mods that are "dirty" and need cleaning (yellow messages). If you would post your load order, that will help. You will find it under C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Skyrim\ and file name is loadorder.txt

I can find the load order but let me emphasize that I was trying to reinstall the game and for some reason my mods are all still there. And definitely not working.

Take notice that this is just the random list of mods that was active from the beginning after i just re-installed the game through steam.
Sarge Misfit Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 You uninstalled the game and the mods were not deleted? That's normal for Windows. And re-installing the game wouldn't have overwritten them, so they woulds still be there. Did you install SKSE and then launch the game or did you launch the game using the vanilla launcher, the one that gives you the Play/Option/Data menu?

The whole idea was to be free from NMM/Organizer and all previous mods so to get a clean start. I started it without SKSE (I haven't installed or updated anything anything new after the reinstall)
Sarge Misfit Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 BINGO! Go back to that box and check every one of them. I saw right there that Dawnguard was inactive (unchecked) and there's a lot of mods that require it. Then run FNIS, and the LOOT. You'll find the loadorder.txt file where Windows keep your user profiles, not in the Skyrim game folder.

See I don't have Dawnguard or the other expansion. And my steam app is not able to find these. I would love to buy them and add them to the game but I cannot seem to find a way. Are they necessary if to have to enjoy the mods around here? I read on some guides that they were optional and on most guides I didn't see them mentioned. //Regards
Sarge Misfit Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 As for a completely clean start, just delete the contents of the Data folder and then go on Steam to verify files. Everything will be downloaded again and set back to vanilla, including the Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini files. Then install SKSE, unless you're planning on playing vanilla. Definitely keep using LOOT. Its just too convenient and it is actually pretty reliable. I've never had any issues with it and I've been using for a couple of years now. You're still going to need TES5Edit, too, as Update, Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn all need cleaning. I'm not a fan of NMM, though I do use MO for a couple of things, like a very quick and easy way to find problem mods. I prefer a manual install, which I think is what you are looking to do. I believe Skyrim's DLC are all free, dude In your Steam Library, find Skyrim and you should see a link/button to the DLC just looked, the Find DLC is right under Achievements Sure, you can do without them, but you will have to pay attention to which ones require them. The thing is, if Dawnguard and the other DLC wasn't installed, they wouldn't show up on that list at all. It reads only what is actually there.
