CTD On Load

I've had this problem for some time, since the last time I played as well.

 

For some reason my game has a ctd when I try to load a recent saved game, and it only can load distant saves at time, I have no idea how to fix it and I can get a papyrus log as well. I thought about trying to use patches and fixes, etc but I don't know how to do that and the guides are a bit complicated for me.

 

I dunno if it would help, but could it be a problem with my load order? Or something else?

 

I'm a bit hesitant to try using TES5Edit without clear advice in how to use it.

 

Edit: The Continue Game no Crash plugin for some reason solves this issue, but not 100%

 

Would rather not have to require it though.

Installing and using TESVedit is not hard. Also download and use Wryebashe. It may take some time to learn to make patches with both of these. But they should help with stability. As far as loading into saves- how many hours do you have on them? Can u start a new game and then load back into it? What you are looking for is an overall save file size. If your saves become too bloated then you will either have trouble loading them or wont be able to at all as they are likely corrupt.

Last time I tried to use TES5edit I had issues with MO and loot.

 

I imagine it would take a while indeed, especially with the difficulty I normally have with these things already.

 

One save has 28 hours in it, a lot of that time was suffering the bugs and ctds I had.

 

I can start a new game easily, and I think it might be a bit more stable cuz its on a current install, but it suffers the same problem and I'm playing with the continue game no crash mod.

 

Otherwise I wouldn't be able to play.

ok a suggestion

 

make a new game and save it after you have full controls (when you can access the inventory, magic, and map menus).  if you do the vanilla start this point would be right

after Ralof or Hadvar cuts your hands loose. exit to desktop and then restart Skyrim and try to load that game.  if that works you now have a "safe save" to use as a

"preloader" ( I have to load my safe save every time I exit to desktop).  then if that woked just keep that "safe save" and use it for preloading (load that then your regular game).

 

If you have tried that and it did not work you most likely have a missing master file.

 

finding it manually would mean checking every mod to see what they require to work.

 

Gopher has some excellent MO tutorials.

the Step project has more information and a easy to follow (imho) guide on how to do a bashed patch.

 

a quick google search will lead you to both of those.

 

to use TES5Edit or Wyrebash with MO they have to be run from inside MO.  (check Gopher's tutorials for how to do that).

 

both can show missing master files (they will give a warning and Wyre will actually state what file is missing {it calls it missing if it is misplaced}).

Okay, so make a new game in vanilla, and make it a safe save and try to load that before other saves?

 

I don't know if that will work but I can try.

 

As for the edit and all that i know to do that, and know how to fix update, etc.

 

But my problem when I first tried it was that MO and loot had issues recognizing the esp's.

 

S.T.E.P is a bit of a pain but I can try to follow that.

ok the reason I was referring to the step project was not to follow it (that is a personal choice) but it had the easiest (I found for me) instructions on how to make a

bashed patch.  the bashed patch will not be made if you have a missing or misplaced master file.

 

as for the "safe save" I have 2 (one with only vanilla stuff, and 1 with current mod load in the AS-LAL cell). either should work to tell you if you can play and load saves.

that should be a easy way to make sure you have the correct master files (and have them in the right order).

 

Wyre and TES5Edit can also find other problems, but takes a bit to learn how to do (find other problems).

one thing to remember is while Loot is good it is not perfect.

 

and MO will not give you a warning for misplaced master files.  (Wyre will when you try to make a bashed patch, it will call them missing even though

they are in fact present, they are just in the wrong order)

 

UFO is a prime example in the load order you posted.  you have the addons for UFO before the UFO mod itself, they should be after.

Wyre when making a bashed patch will normally give a missing master warning for this type of thing.

and when you look (just at MO) you will not get that warning because they are in fact present, just out of place)

This type of issue is generally caused by the footik error.   There is no real known fix except to do one of the following...

- Load your saves from either a new game or by typing coc qasmoke before loading any current games.

- using continue game no crash mod

- removing custom animations that you had to use FNIS to install.

 

the more custom animations that you are using.. the more likely you are to run into the footik error.  This may or may not be your current issue, but chances are that it is, given the information provided.

After doing some testing I have found out that reducing animations for FNIS will solve your problem. In my test I used 12 mods for 3800 animations. Most recent saves would not load directly. After reducing animations to 3200- THE PROBLEM STOPPED. This obviously may vary for a number of reasons. But it is directly related to animations as far as I can tell.
