tomomi1922 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Anyone here absolutely hate pipe weapons? I get it that people cannot easily manufacture weapons and they build their own with a hammer and some scraps. But at level 60, I see a lot of settlers coming to me with pipe weapons and even Diamond City guards carry pipe weapons still. Would this be a problem at level 100+? Even some raiders carry pipe weapons to shoot at player. Say, a .38 round. A pipe rifle may propel the round weaker with its inferior barrel, but .38 is still .38. Same argument goes with .22 in real life. A lot of people laugh at .22 and think it's "for the women". It indeed has the least recoil and helps beginners shoot better. But you should not be mistaken .22 doesn't hurt ... let me shoot you a .22 in your arm and you tell me. It can kill just as good, sometimes even better because the shooter can shoot more accurately. One round in the heart, you are done. I am thinking about creating a mod just to up pipe weapon base damage to fix this problem. It will screw up lower levels but pipe weapons should be taken a little more seriously or get out of the way. But I don't know how to remove pipe weapons out of the level list entirely. Btw, let's not get into a big discussion and flame war about weapons in real life.
azoth1267 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Wew lad, let me tell you bout guns irl... No but really, i just hate that the pipe guns look like shit, i guess thats the point but still. As far as dmg is concerned, you could up them as many other mods have done, but you will hit a point where you will get one shot by a pipe pistol from miles away and thats honestly no fun. Honestly, realism is all well and good for many aspects of games but it really should take a backseat to "fun". As far as removing them from the game, i could swear ive seen a mod for that no the nexus, but then again there is a mod for everything. Can we get to the flame war now? Can we all just admit to being /k/ommandos?
jyrttiah Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I did some searching and came up with this one, might help with pipe weapons (or not). Pipe Weapons Overhaul http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7556 I'm using the mod below, simply because the pipe weapon textures look (shitty) brown in vanilla FO4. Better Handmade Weapon Textures http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1372
tomomi1922 Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 Wew lad, let me tell you bout guns irl... No but really, i just hate that the pipe guns look like shit, i guess thats the point but still. Can we all just admit to being /k/ommandos? Well, it is our game, our fantasy, our world. We are under no obligation to follow to the T what Bethesda thinks we should have. I mean those guys at HQ still have a lot of back and forth among themselves on weapon balancing. Adding in new mods .... balance is even way off. So I doubt if there is such a thing as "purist". So that is a freedom I see, not being totally restrained by game design. But since we already buy into this game, it is best to stick with the story (and the universe) instead of trying to turn this game into Skyrim or Call of Duty. By that I mean, there is vaguely some kind of post apocalyptic waste land out there where people generally suffer from lack of resources (trying to be as vague as possible). So either you go all melee, or you learn to make something that can fire off the ammunition you find. So 1 way or another, pipe weapon makes a lot of sense. Nuka World's people seem to make even more advanced Handmade weapons. But pipe is as simple as we get. And we should use that to our gameplay advantage. I did some searching and came up with this one, might help with pipe weapons (or not). Pipe Weapons Overhaul http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7556 I'm using the mod below, simply because the pipe weapon textures look (shitty) brown in vanilla FO4. Better Handmade Weapon Textures http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1372 Thanks for reply. I think I have that Better Handmade Texture mod long ago (and literately forgot) and even presume these textures are vanilla. Vanilla isn't brown, more like yellow, like you accidentally spilled a jar of pickles on your shirt kind of yellow (that, or curry). It was just unbearable to look at. Regarding the overhaul, it looks a bit too big, trying to do so many things. And problem with these overhaul mods are, creators don't waste come clean about what they really tweaked. And at some point they stop supporting, and you have a broken mod need to be uninstalled. I have had a few of these, perks, weapon, etc.... and your game totally changed. Not to mention there is a potential danger to your save. Like perk mod that changes Life Giver... it gives HP regen right off rank 1, with better regen going up to rank 3. So my quick solution: I used FO3Edit to increase most of pipe weapons (3 of them, pipe pistol, revolver, bolt) to maybe 1.5x more damage. 10mm gets 1.5 damage too. Pipe Bolt and Hunter rifle gets 1.8x damage. I am going to spend more time and up that .50 barrel on Hunter rifle to do even more damage (for using .50 ammo). That should give these weapons some use. I compared with existing weapons (both Vanilla and some Doombased weapons) and to make sure that they don't come close or exceed a properly manufactured weapon. Next is to either learn how, or find mod to reduce the pipe weapon on level list to the poorest people only (like settlers). And I think I can keep this pipe weapon popularity under control. And manually give DC guards new weapons. We met them at level 10 or so, and FO4 didn't have a script to buff them. DC guards outside of DC can die and respawn with appropriate leveled weapons (I think).
